No word on when exactly the tech will return, though.

If you people want a fingerprint sensor, go buy an HTC or similar type of phone. Since I don't live vicariously through my phone, I don't drain it in half a day either. The Soli radar and face unlock was great, I use my phone to pay for groceries simply by looking at it rather than needing to touch a sensor. A bunch of you whine about costs.....it's called a business, you want free or cheap stuff, go live in china or the DPRK, but watch out, your devices will snitch on you, just like your neighbors. The Pixel 4XL was the best phone I've ever used, simply because of the experience.

Hey Google. Nobody cares. Why don't you just release a reasonably priced phone with a flagship chipset, like you did in the Nexus days. Bring back front facing stereo speakers. And put a 3.5 mm jack in your flagship phone. Give people basic functionality that they want, not gimmicks.

      > because they were too expensive for the phones Google wanted to build.

More like too less profit to consume. S765G has been a good bait for manufacturers to use it instead of the 8xxx series for their flagships. It costs less, so good profit for them. Loss of CPU power for the average consumers though.

Huawei has done nothing to remedy this so even if Trump comes out of office in November then their lack of transparency and also the Chinese governments arrogance have probably put the nail in the coffin.

This is like a bad joke. Google bans Huawei, perhaps the company with the best phones on the market. Google offers some mutilated products through its Pixel, at a lower price than the previous ones but mutilated in chip, radar sensor and processor being of medium range. If you get rid of a competitor, at least it offers something remarkable, not the son of Frankenstein

Everything about Google Pixel already seems like a bad joke. I want to buy a Google Pixel 5, I'll have to go and live in another country (and I live in Spain, which is within the CEE, like other countries that can buy Pixel). Every news about these people is a nonsense after the other. The only thing left to see is that the batteries will explode. Hope no.

Johnrb, 01 Oct 2020If they bring it back they just have to remember to have a ... moreThat's as stupid as saying that we don't need airbags since we already have seat-belts.

Between users who might prefer one over the other and still want for X or Y reasons a Pixel, and for the sake of security, as combining biometrics don't have an additional but an exponential increase in security, the best idea, by far, is to have both and to make allow the software to use both at the same time (which is quite easy and quick to code).

Diversity > Any feature, and adding both add to the diversity pool, as in the case of non intrusive features (like punch holes, curved display, camera bump and other things like that you can't just "ignore" or "disable" if you don't like them) the more = the better.

Anonymous, 01 Oct 2020In a notch.Yeah the notch will be bigger than the display lol

I think Google, just like Samsung, has messed up their smartphone division recently. Samsung is slowly pulling back up, but Google is stuck with another rubbish phone.

I'm glad as all it needed was a tweak and yes I would keep the fingerprint sensor it's timeless simplicity

osmo, 01 Oct 2020I think Google may release a flagship phone in Feb or March... moreSales started to increase when they created 3a.
I doubt they will ever use 8xx again.
Same applies to other brands like Zte and Htc.

I think Google may release a flagship phone in Feb or March so that they can use flagship SD875 and all the goodies google can do...

If they bring it back they just have to remember to have a fingerprint sensor..... it's not rocket science ,just common sense

Literally the ONLY thing they should have removed is this...
Like, keeping all the 3D face recognition sensors, even adding, two IR camera with the dot projector (which is exactly how the Kinect worked for a while) is more than enough, this isn't as if the Soli was exceptionally good...

Those idiots are capable of ditching the 3D facial recognition and only putting the Soli under the display or some other stupidities of the style...
Clearly sensors on a top bezel is a good formula that many desires, but I don't expect Google to make a good choice and to use a thin bezel over the stupid hole...

If anything have to comeback, it is the fingerprint scanner that everyone missed, because you have 3D facial recognition does NOT mean it justify ditching the FPS, having both is better and should even come with an option of using none, either or both as the same time for improved security.
