Snapdragon 865 economic cost itself is already at £115, far expensive than 855/855+ economic cost. And more components added into the equation, and it's already nearing £290. How the f you gonna sell that for £299? Not even Xiaomi dare to sell F2 Pro at £299 on its launch.

    Hoping that the release of this phone will bring down the price of the 10 II so I can get it for a bit less money by the end of the month.

            Agent Alpha 95, 03 Oct 2020Actually I owned 3 Xperia Xperia X8 1st phone Xperia Z2 ... morecheck on the freebies that comes with preorders... if you like it, get it, if not, the best time to buy it (or optimally) is on the second and third price cut (happening within two years)... the first cut might be deep, but without the freebies it is more pricey...
            this is also true on other phones (in the philippines, samsung and huawei does that... many freebies on preorder, but gone on the first price cut which in turn is more expensive)

              Currently using Xperia XZ Premium

              1. I'm impressed by the battery performance of these devices. Battery size may smaller compared to competition. However still managed to get through the day even after 6 years (Xperia Z2 - my sister using now). Recently I'm interested in 2020 xperia phone battery tech.
              - manually limit the charging to 80% or 90%
              - overnight full charge time can be set manually
              - Plugged and gaming without charging the battery (less damage to battery cells).

              2. I like the design of the phone (true its personal preference)
              3. Front facing stereo speakers, i loved it in both Z2 and XZP (I don't like bottom firing stereo speakers)
              4. Android software (Super clean, minimalist, beautiful icons)

              I became a Sony Ericsson fan back in 2008 when I saw the icons and UI of the K800i phone. Ever since I'm a fan! Looking forward to upgrade to Xperia 5ii, unfortunately have to wait till price come down.

                        I surely won't be buying any new Sony phones going forward. Nothing impressive about any of their phones anymore. So disappointing.

I l... moreI think there is nothing wrong with Xperia 5 II pricing and especially her bundle value. It's all pretty relative and it depends on personal taste. If you been spoiled by all those chinese brands and expect western companies to follow their pricing you are waitting for Mr. Goddo as it's not gonna happend. There are good reasons behind every ultra cheap model why it can cost so low compared to other non-chinese brands.

                              The main reason is a different bussines model.

                              Did anyone ever watch TV show called Dragons Den? They are talking about bussines models which are important for making profit. There are many models proving good for making profit, but they are very different. Chinese mobile brands use a model in which they have to basicly be on low profite margine with profit sometimes even go to negative just to be competitive. It's a model proving it can get profit in a long run but with few new interrations every cyclus and with slowly upping the profit margines for bussines to stay sustainable for a longer period of time. Chinese brands can do this and western can't because China don't have a logistical problems like all westerns are, it's all made in China. Westerns have to pay for it, chinese don't. That alone already have a huge impact on pricing and makin profit. Also they don't have so many phisical stores as they sell their product mostly on-line, which have a big impact on low number for human resources. That's a big cost to westerns and they must give back what they pay for through higher starting prices then chinese.

                              Every person who mentioned how new Galaxy S20 FE 5G is going to sell much more than Xperia 5 II is right. But not for the reasons they think. Samsung is still number 1 in mobile worldwide sales. And where is Sony? Nowhere. Most of people don't know for Xperias. One great model such as Xperia 5 II is not gonna magiclly make Sony a mobile giant again. It sure gonna help to establish better recognition, but Samsung is far far more popular and that's the only reason why they are going to sell more than X5II or any Sony.

                              Btw: S20 FE 5G is cheaper but do not offers what X5II has to offer. It's a great over all-rounder, but only Xperia 5II has all those photo and video insane options. If you don't recognize what Xperia 5 II has to offer in contrast to every other brand or model, than Xperia 5II is not for you as you can't see the point of that device. But they are many people who see.

                                YouKnowIt, 02 Oct 2020Yeah, I thought the pricing (unlike the 1ii) was spot on fo... morex 1 II has two features i'm missing with 5 II: the tof camera (good to have in certain circumstances) and the squarish edges design (fits better my preferences in matters of aesthetics, better gripping for photo use, though i'm always using a light, transparent plastic cover... anti-gravity protection :) ). the two downsides of the 1II: too large / heavy (almost all high class competitors of the 5II share the same issue...) and much higher price....

                                the relatively recent 865, 3 years (if confirmed..) os update, 5g capability and the usual sony quality and reliability hopefully will ensure a 3-4years usefulness range. this also weighted, heavily :), in price acceptability evaluation...

Glass back not plastic back means it can't be price compared to a lot of the Chinese brands. I hope Sony do announce though it gets 3 years of O/S support though. 5G handsets are still a premium over the average and some people forget that when they compare say a S20+ and not the S20+ 5G model --- and don't then remember the S865 is missing from some markets too!

                                    Pre-ordered as I want the blue one.... I already had H.Ear on 2 so the 3 (which looks a downgrade) so I would have preferred some in ears as my 5 pin wired Sony HiRes ear phones will be useless. Sony's official partner also weirdly had 2 delivery options (express & standard)... If I am pre-ordering I don't expect it to be delivered 2nd class but on the first day as standard! That had better be a cart purchase choice for off the shelf orders not pre-orders. A second set of headphones won't harm though & in ear are cheap enough if the ones in the box are rubbish.

                                      re-run the numbers and specs comparisons xperia 5II, google pixel 5, s20 fe, etc..: x 5II... more expensive yet better in overall performances, size, photo cameras and ticking all the required / nice to have features. 775euro as a "company phone". no low cost but acceptable. done deal.
