Apple facing more “batterygate” lawsuits in Europe

03 December 2020
The new lawsuits are asking Apple to compensate affected users at least €60 per device in Belgium and Spain.

The truth is simple: Apple cannot admit wrongdoing, as they would then have to recall all the devices worldwide and would still be open to a litigation. Settlement is the cheapest option for them, it also means they will not have to reimburse the full damages.

I think the regulators should have stepped earlier in time, but clearly the consumer is not the one being protected here.

Never in my life did I got paid for owning a device.

AnonD-804996, 03 Dec 2020It's hard to over all the noisy Apple haters gloating ... moreHow can you say that "most" people have it for over 5 years ?
By the numbers apple show off every year as how much they have sold there devices dont show that people have the phones for 5 years. If people would have the phones for 5 years as you say most people then apple should have like 50% of world population as there customers.

Never mind that there are lots of clumsy people who break there phones too even tough they would not buy new model yearly.

AnonD-804996, 03 Dec 2020It's hard to over all the noisy Apple haters gloating ... moreApple did this deliberately knowing consumers would eventually find out. It bought them time. They had no choice but to milk it. Sad how this company actually operates and has an empire built on such practices as this. Even their entire Apple infrastructure is built around serving themselves. Very sneaky indeed. Maybe they should try helping the world more than themselves and a few loyal followers. Then they would not get hit so hard in the face when they do something as awkward as this.

Here we go again, planned obsolescence! I really hate planned obsolescence!

When we buy something with our money, we already own the product and the company/manufacturer has no right to intentionally destroy it. I know many companies/manufacturers would not want to create a product that would last a lifetime, otherwise their business will die. But for expensive items like smartphone, it should at be made to last at least 10 years like those old feature phones. When I was using a Nokia feature phone before, I still considered it as new even after using it for 3 years. But now in smartphone age, a 3-yr-old flagship is considered very old and obsolete, think for example of Galaxy S8/Note8, iPhone 8, Huawei Mate P10/Mate10, etc.

The idea behind it is actually really good, especially since most Appl eusers stick with phones for 5+ years and it can really make a difference on original first battery. What Apple did screw up was not communicating the thing to users and give them option to switch the operating mode. If they did that, there would be no issue at all.

AnonD-948658, 03 Dec 2020I still don’t understand the scandal. Apple prioritising ba... moreBefore (I believe) iOS 11.3, you did not have the CHOICE to choose performance or battery life, which is what sparked these lawsuits. Since then, there's the battery health menu and you're free to decide what you prioritize. If you want your iPhone to brownout every time you open a larger app, feel free to do so now. But this is the world we live in, people will microwave their cats and sue the manufacturer for not telling them they shouldn't do this

First batterygate was also done to hide the batches of iphone 6x/7x that have defective battery.
