For example in the UK, the Xperia 5ii in a black friday sale dropped from £799 to £599.
So with this kind of pricing, keep an eye out for deals and sales as they are more likely to occur than compared to value phones which tend to have fixed pricing.

Xperia 1ii over $1000 is way much popular than this.
Even any midrange HTC sells more than 100.000 units.
Even crap L4 is more popular than this "flagship killer".

Woohoo, 20 Jan 2021It's actually a pretty under-rated (not all out) flags... moreImo the 21/9 aspect ratio is one of the best things about the phone. Easy to hold and great for multitasking. For me the cinema content is just a bonus, but definitely not the reason I bought the phone.

Woohoo, 20 Jan 2021It's actually a pretty under-rated (not all out) flags... moreMain issue is the price - in my country for example, Xperia 5 II costs an equivalent of 1000 usd while Galaxy S20 costs around 720 usd, which is a tough sell considering the target audience is virtually the same.

Anyhow I can tell you that after all the Samsung Note and Huawei flagships in the past 15 years this one f***s them all.

Besides Google, no other android OEM releases global update at once.
Always region by region.
If update was paused, the other devices would wait many weeks until fix was out, no less than 1 month.
