Anonymous, 28 Jan 2021Battery replacement costs how much, 20$ ?Ah so you are asking people to go to third parties to install third grade third party batteries in their out-of-support phones with sealed-in batteries. Very smart of you. And please let us know which shops will do that for you for $20.

Now M01 and A01 were decent devices with gcam support and snapdragon chip sets and were also compact. But with A02 Samsung has gone backwards..

Anonymous, 27 Jan 2021I think I found out what it is. The A02s is the successor ... moreOkay I'm honestly not sure about that theory because I can't find price tags of the A01 and A01 Core. Could also be that Samsung's being Samsung and ripping off people by selling a phone with a 2017 chip that uses 2013 technology.

The A02 is the successor to the A01 Core.
Quite a bit better than the predecessor, but still not something I'd ever buy. Same for the A02s. No biometric security is not acceptable in 2021 imo.
Yes, that also means I wouldn't buy a Redmi 9A.

A quick... moreThey did promise 3 software updates on ALL phones, wonder how that's supposed to happen on phones like these. It can totally happen on phones like the A21s (albeit difficult) if they use optimisation to improve performance over the years. But this phone and their Android Go edition phones are a curious bit.

Blutbad-fuchsbau, 27 Jan 2021No one sees the real problem with this phone. It has a Medi... moreThe A55 is better, but not WAY better than the A53. A quick search in Wikipidia reveals someone tested out per-MHz benchmarks on the A53 and A55, the Drystone MIPS one. It's an ancient benchmark, but it's all the reference we got to compare these cores.

The A53 scored 2,25 DMIPS per MHz, the A55 scored 2,65 DMIPS per MHz. Switching from A53's to A55's would not make for a substantial improvement on it's own, but the A55 is an 64-bit ARMv8.2 core (A53 = ARMv8.0), and if Samsung had ARMv8.2 on a cheap phone and optimmize it to take advantage of this relatively superior ISA, then it would be all cool and good. But that's not enough. This phone, the A02 might come with eMMC 5.1 storage, and mDDR4 RAM, probably at 1333 MHz just like in the Galaxy A10s. Quad-core A55 is enough to handle fast storage and fast RAM, and that is an absolute necessity for fast phones.

Also, for a cheap phone, companies will essentialy always do this: impress on show, don't deliver on substance. Like, people on a budget that don't understand a lot of tech will go "WOW, THIS PHONE HAS 2 CAMERAS FOR 100 BUCKS!!!" (even if there are better options for the same price or, a bit pricier but with so much more value, remeber that just like Apple is Apple with Apple levels of influence, Samsung is Samsung with Samsung levels of influence). The second camera is there, 2MP Macro, useless, but just for being there, these sensors are dirty cheap but can inflate the price of a phone by a bit, because of the "impress on show" effect.

That happens with every phone, except midrangers and flagships, wich still do the stupid impress on show, but thankfully, and obviously, deliver on substance.

The Pixel 4a is a mid-level midranger (actually idk what category the 4a is in), that delivers "more than it should" for it's underpowered specs, because of the amazing software works at Google, and at the same time is made to impress nobody, with it's ugly recicled-looking plastic, single camera, etc... It's good, delivers on substance, outmatches it's specs, but doesn't impress on show. Here is the thing: a smartphone can be good and all, but if it doesn't impress, it doesn't sell, and entry level phones can't do both things at the same time. Sadly, the price of Google phones are enough to make me cry.

Not everything is a dark future tho, Samsung is heading into the right direction for entry level phones in my opinion. As far as i know, a couple of years ago they had the J series (with a lot of variants and re-releases), A series (with a lot of variants), S and Note series (with just some few variants, each line).
Now, they have the "new" A/M series (a lot of variants, but no yearly re-releases), and the S series (with yet fewer variants, and variants only of the S line, as the Notes are, dead?). As tech have progresses through these years, they became able to attend a lot of different markets with lesser device segmentation. By reducing this segmentation even more in the following years, i hope software optimization and longer term software support become a reality (or at least, something minimally close to it) in cheap handsets.

If this phone cost around 80 then should be ok for the price, but if it’s 150£ definitely it’s not worth recently poco x3 was 158£ and mi10t lite 170£ such a huge difference in features and performance for less then 20£ difference. This year Xiaomi ruling the market.
