Oh yes, Apple will redesing the tools and machinery under patents, then ask for the right to sell them to third parties, later ask for the regular formation and updates plus also the right to use those tools... Finally third party repairements will cost even more than those from Apple after pay all that royalties... even if they don't use original parts lol. And maybe even underprice them to kill all competition so those partners with preference that make sacrifies to let Apple get even more profit will only the single competitive ones in prices but not as profitable for themselves XD

It will be fun watch what the FTC does against the charge money multiple times for a single product/service that Apple practice. And that despite how overpriced are all them. If you look at Apple for have the right to get cheaper repairs you must to pay the Apple care fee/insurance lol

Hopefully i'm free of that chains and prison and can customize, repair and do whatever thing i want with my Android phones, With a fair and low cost.

Apple must be firmly against this. All those billions are poured into blocking things like third party repairs. Hands Down!! The most greediest company on the planet.

About time, really. Not everyone would spend a lot to get the smartphone fixed at an authorised service centre of which they will always charge astronomical price tag.

blue.sun, 22 Jul 2021You're wrong. It's about both. When you can have ... moreThe movement is for companies to stop blocking third party repair, to offer the parts to third parties (including consumers) and to offer hardware diagrams in order to make repair easier. Easily removable batteries will return if they make sense. As of the moment, you can already remove them with a heat gun and ten bucks worth of tools.

Eight to repair includes putting swappable batteries and battery covers back into electronics right? Right?

I think Tesla owners face the biggest problem in this kinda thing also, where sometimes Tesla would require the owner to change batteries just because a coolant pipe was damaged etc and if the problem was fixed with after market solutions, the Telsa chargers would stop charging cars entirely. Your only option would be to use 3rd party charging stations or the one at your home.

Hope this right works there as well...

People who are willing to get their hands dirty don't really care about what the FTC does or doesn't. It's not like they'll be breaking doors down to arrest people. F the FTC, in other words.

For an aftermarket panel to stream your content to a remote device would imply that the display must be able to send its input back to the phone and for the phone's firmware to be modified so it will send said data. At this point, there is no reason for the display to be compromised since when you can manipulate the firmware, you can do whatever you want. Otherwise, one could maybe implement a small, simple SoC with WiFi between the controller and the actual display but once again, the panel will have to request WiFi AP passwords which it cannot ask at all with an untainted firmware. But even then, the SoC would be far too big. It's a non-issue. You would have had better luck discrediting this wonderful effort to give consumers the right to do as they please with a product that they own by claiming aftermarket parts would be of poor quality, which some would but most wouldn't, as to not lose confidence from the market.

I wonder how do things like wireless IEM and electric tooth brush would work. They are impossible to repair at this time. Most phones today are not repairable as well. They have glued in pieces and removed most useful traits of phones we had few years ago like sd cards and headphone ports in the guise of "improvement".
