It can prevent the camera lens from getting shattered by an accidental drop, that's for sure. I remembered accidentally dropping my old smartphone from the pocket into a house drain all the way back in 2016 and the camera was immediately broken.
What I'm anticipating here is that if there is anyone who can truly take full advantage of great lens optics (particularly the glass type) inside the camera sensor and the protection outside the camera sensor. Sure that camera software is still the preferred choice, but camera hardware still plays an important role since there are certain elements in photography like aperture and shutter speed that cannot be controlled by software.
