18 August 2021
Yes, the Google Pixel 5a is basically a slightly larger Pixel 5 made a little cheaper.

i0S.- Never.- Again, 06 Sep 2021Only people who think other Android skins running on Snapdr... moreYou might think you are correct. But what Google promises is using middle range cpu and middle range camera and give you much more superior experience from its hardware. I don't say Pixel gives you better experience than SD870, I say it can give you same with middle range CPU. I owned Xiaomi Mi A1 (which is Google One device - i.e. software from Google), that has similar "NUMBERS" as my 3a XL. But that device is MULTIPLE times slower and laggy than my pixel. And THAT is the difference in pixel experience.

As I said, you are too trapped in numbers. You think having SD888 means your device IS faster, but you forget that your cpu's power draw is multiple times higher than SD7xx. It means you get higher battery health and less battery usage in long run with daily activities. In fact, google devices give you same smoothness as some of those SD888 devices (not premium/gaming phones, but cheap manufacturers that you mentioned). You really need to be in android programming and able to debug and log your device to understand the differences. If I ever use those phones you mentioned I would always use an AOSP ROM, whose source is publicly available. Not those closed source firmware that even you don't know what does to your phone.

It is like comparing apples and oranges. Those companies want numbers albeit worse experience. Pixel is pixel. It is a niche experience.

Anonymous, 18 Aug 2021Is pixel 5a better then pixel 5 🤔Depends on whether:
        - you want smaller/lighter phone (p5 is better)
        - you want more RAM (p5 is better)
        - you want high refresh screen (p5 is better)
        - you want ip68 instead of ip67 (p5 is better)
        - you need reverse charging (p5 is better)
        - you want more battery (p5a is better)
        - you want cheaper phone (p5a is better)
        - you want more screen estate (p5a is better)
        - you want higher aspect ratio (p5a is better)

        So, all in all,
        - you want 3.5mm jack (p5a is better)

i0S.- Never.- Again, 18 Aug 2021One doesn't need root to install gcam It depends whether it is a mod gcam that requires magisk modules to work or a gcam mod that is not recognizing the tele/wide cameras of the device. In those cases you need root.

Is it only me or anybody else noticed that it has been 2 weeks that it was "IN FOR REVIEW" and there are no reviews still. In the meantime, we had couples of realme, samsung, oppo and xiaomi devices that were reviewed, which are newer than this...
Begs the question, why? Pixel 4a 5g also didn't have any review. Is there some sort of edging going on towards Google devices in this forum?

It has been a week already. Will there be a review about this device or will you only review those who pay you for review?

its only for US and Japanese markets only as of now.

I hope the 'a' series of 6 does retain some of the current form factor.

Absolutely hate the latest trend of snapping glass on back as well. More than happy to let go of wireless charging if that's the tradeoff.

I guess I didn't realize that the 4a and 5a are more like XL size devices and so much larger than the 5. That's disappointing. I like the smaller Pixels more.

The iPhone and Pixel follow, though the latter almost always gets colour temperature wrong in night mode."
It's really sad that Google ruined the camera experience that was so great with the Nexus 5x (and probably also Pixel 1) in HDR+ On mode.

Because Pixel phones are first party and get all the updates straight from Google. Not that it matters much to people here who are all obsessed with hardware specs and have no clue about anything software. When Pixel 6 comes and slams 5 years of support it'll embarrass ALL Android phone makers and even put serious competitiveness on Apple. And when "a" Pixel models get "lite" versions of Tensor chipsets, they'll most likely adopt the 5 years of support cycle as well. Something Xiaomi just isn't great at all. But if you don't care about how much effort vendors put into a phone after they sell it to you, then sure, Poco F3 is better in almost every way.
