01 December 2021
The G3x platform will power portable consoles and set top boxes, even some AR/VR experiences. Android is the OS of choice.

With this hopefully more companies will focus on bringing AAA gaming to mobile. Nintendo tapped Nvidia to make the Switch and they pretty much completely abandoned their Shield lineup.

                    Steam deck is better

One of the biggest reasons why I subscribe to Metal Jesus Rocks is because he'll talk about underrated games from past consoles. I also like Gaming Historian. I'm truly a retro gamer. I really have no clue how to play most of the newer franchises especially the many FPS games.

My favorite from when I had those systems? Probably PS1. I had the most fun owning the PS1. I played PS1 games for 6 years. I have Next Generation issues in PDF that came out in 1995 that talked mostly of the 5th generation and a little of the 6th generation. My current new favorite is becoming GameCube even over my beloved Dreamcast.

I try to imagine it's 1989-1993 again. Or sometimes 1996-2005 again. Those were my favorite times in my life. Nostalgia is very strong those years especially 1989-1993. My all-time favorite game used to be Final Fantasy VII. Beaten it in 4 times all the way through. It's now becoming NBA Street Vol. 2 (2003) with a perfect rap song that gives vibes about nostalgia... "T.R.O.Y" (They Reminisce Over You).

Kangal, 02 Dec 2021Interesting. I was actually talking about this subject the ... moreAfter giving this topic some thought, here's where I concluded...I think the strongest contenders for the "best gen" are ones where they were immersive and revolutionary for most gamers.

Here's the obvious generations that are not in the contender for "best":
.....Gen9 is a little too early to tell. Gen8 has finished, and we've gotten some good times with it, but, it also had some bad business issues. From privacy, to subscriptions, microtransactions, and mainly anti-consumer behaviour. On top, it didn't really revolutionise the gaming scene from the Gen7 period, so this one is an obvious wash. Gen2 is the forgotten generation for a reason. Everyone agrees Gen1 was absolutely horrible, but it was the first so who cares. Gen3 saw the rise of "proper" video games, but the games themselves weren't too interesting or inspiring, at least when comparing it to Gen4. The same reasoning is given to Gen5, where the 3D did give a boost to immersiveness, it fundamentally fell short in other aspects. Most developers focused on the crude 3D graphics and did little about the story-telling.

                        So which are the contenders:
.....So the SNES has a strong claim to the throne, because we finally had moving pictures on a screen tell a story that was believable (at least for children). That is revolutionary. However, Gen4 is actually not the "best gen" and reasoning behind this is because without the SNES, you're left with a mediocre generation, the NEC and Sega simply weren't as immersive.

......Gen6 has a load of great titles on the PS2, very impressive graphics on the Xbox, and some neat exclusives on the GameCube (and Wii if that counts). Honestly, it's a well-rounded generation. And here it felt like story-telling or immersion was much improved. Removing the GameCube or Xbox doesn't make it a "bad gen" but the PS2 really did have a big input/influence. The biggest drawback is that online multiplayer was very niche at that point, or in some cases, it didn't work properly or supported. So this is a very strong contender.

......Gen7 did pretty up the graphics, and story-telling was as strong as the previous generation. Besides some hardware faults (covered under warranty), there wasn't much in the way of anti-consumer behaviour. We had strong online multiplayer in the Xbox 360, and also a decent PSN option which was free, whilst Nintendos efforts lied more on social aspects (Miiverse). Strong story-telling in the PS3, with some alternatives from MS and Nintendo. And if you wanted to something quirky like motion controls or tablet use there was the Nintendo WiiU (and Wii if that counts). And in terms of nostalgia, they all had some sort of backwards compatibility, either hardware or downloadables. Each console was successful and brought something to the table, that if you removed one, you still would be left with good options.

                        WINNER: PS3, Xbox 360, Wii/U.... the Gen7 consoles!

The Flip, 02 Dec 2021The only four generations of gaming I cared about... 3rd... moreInteresting. I was actually talking about this subject the other day.

                          As an overview:
                          Gen1: Atari Pong/Nintendo CGT/Coleco Telstar
                          Gen2: Phillips Odyssey2/Mattel IntelliVision/Coleco Vision
                          Gen3: Atari 2600/NES/Sega Master
                          Gen4: NEC TG16/Sega Genesis/SNES
                          Gen5: N64/PS1/Dreamcast
                          Gen6: PS2/GameCube/XBOX
                          Gen7: Xbox 360/PS3/WiiU
                          Gen8: Switch/Xbox One/PS4
                          Gen9: Xbox SS/ PS5 /Xbox SX

                          What each Generation roughly represents:
                          Gen1 - started it
                          Gen2 - forgotten generation
                          Gen3 - Proper 2D images starting
Gen4 - More immersive 2D sprites and Sound
Gen5 - Proper speech audio, crude 3D images
                          Gen6 - Fleshed out 3D gaming
Gen7 - High Definition gaming AND online multiplayer
Gen8 - FHD gaming, subscription services
Gen9 - Proper hardware upgrades to SSD/CPU/Graphics to achieve great 4K gaming

Android as the preferred OS? I'm not so sure about that. Android gaming is only largely popular because of FPS and MMORPG games. I'd rather see something like the Valve Steam Deck but with an ARM chipset like this one.

The only four generations of gaming I cared about...

                                    3rd: NES
                                    4th: Genesis, SNES
                                    5th: PS1, N64
                                    6th: Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, GameCube

I had a Jaguar and Saturn. Never cared for them. The 6th gen was my fav because Dreamcast, PS2, and GameCube all rocked. Argiabl the best console from each company.

I really don't mind 8-bit or 16-bit graphics. If the game is fun, I'll play it. Tetris is very simple to pick up and it's one of the greatest. I don't care to play interactive movies with a lot of watching. But I'm done buying consoles.

I never felt any thrill after I got a Wii, PS3, and PS4. Most games plays similar with a fresh new paint on it. I'll stick to emulators on my phones. Saves me tons of money and space. Multiple systems I grew up playing always with me wherever I go.

So their first gaming chipset abbreviation is G3XG1 which is so close to G3SG1. And has a FastConnect 6900. Someone is having a laugh at Qualcomm.
