Kiwi, 21 Jan 2022This device is overpriced because you can get Galaxy S20 FE... moreHaha mate, I did just that. Just got the Galaxy S20 FE 5G. The 865 is SUCH A BEAST.

The current gen processors can rot in hell. No buying a new phone until either Mediatek allows access to their Kernel for Devs to provide open source software OR Qualcomm shifts back to TSMC from the portable OVEN maker i.e. Samsung.

The 12x is ok but it's way overpriced in China relative to the competition e.g. the Realme gt Master Explorer edition with extremely similar specs is 2,499rmb versus 3,199.

This device is overpriced because you can get Galaxy S20 FE 5G with better cameras, software experience, IP68 water resistance, microSDXC and 32-bit/384kHz audio vs 24-bit/192kHz audio on the 11T Pro.
All these advantages outweigh the Snapdragon 888(hand warmer) and 120W charging

SShreyas, 21 Jan 2022"Don't you see that except for Sony and some gami... moreExcept that THERE ARE cars with 3 and 6 wheels.
          THERE ARE cars with joystick.
THERE ARE cars with multiple engines.
Here the important common design elements are a rectangular shape, a tactile display and a set of high-tech features allowing it to be a portable computer, NOT having a punch hole or a teardrop notches.
If the car market was identical, there would only be SUV and Sedan to choose from (Teardrop notch or punch hole) regardless if you want or need a Pickup, hatchback, coupe, minivan, CUV or anything else.
ALL with the same size (all phones have the same design in terms of SIZE despite a big demand for smaller AND larger ones, AND all now have a stove like camera configuration).
Only few engine options and you won't be able to pick your engine configuration and your options/features separately (Phones like the Pocophone F1 who was a powerhorse with little additional expensive features are now gone, you either get power and all options, or little power and no options).
All the high end one would have dumped the CD reader and ability to listen to radio "Because you can connect to the internet" with no possibility to change it (removal of the 3.5mm jack, SD card slot and IR blaster from all but Xiaomi), and all would be automatic transmission even if you prefer manual.
Except for a single expensive (but not luxury) brand and some little known Chinese brands, you know you won't find parts for.
          THIS is a proper comparison.

This is LITERALLY the point of a niche, those ARE smartphone, something different would be tablets with LTE, THIS is different, FOLDABLE, THIS is different.
What about gaming smartphones, or luxury smartphones?
Oh yeah, sorry, we need to either be N°1 in sells or we aren't even worth considering as a company…
That's one of the most overused excuse, MAKING PROFITS is what matter, not the worth or how much profits.
Lol, the Mix is just a totally regular flagship, it doesn't offer anything particular except for a SINGLE thing nowaday which is the next punch hole/teardrop notch invasion equivalent, the underdisplay camera.
The Oppo Find X except for a single microscope thing is also the exact same as every other flagships, it doesn't offer ANYTHING else or different except an ugly camera design which is still stove related.
And Vivo, except their Gimbal which is now a regular feature that, in the sweet stupid smartphone logic, REPLACE the regular OIS rather than expand on it, making the image stabilization full of issues, the ONLY thing I've seen so far that is worth talking about is that they are the first gib brand outside of Apple (Google and Sony smartphone division aren't that big in comparison) that offer a full no-stupid-sub-12Mp-sensors (mainly for the Telephoto) camera suite.
A SINGLE specific thing is NOT diversity.
They ARE mainstream already, and who the heck did talk about making anything mainstream anyway?
That's the GOAL of diversity, you only produce as many units as you expect them to sell, those who sell the most, good, they are "mainstream", those who doesn't, well, they still help making profits thanks to reusing 95% of the build process, materials, R&D and software while also using their difference for other products, so you hit more customers for barely any additional price.
It is like a brand who already do wired product type A (headsets?) and wireless product type B (mouses?) and there is a demand for wireless product type A (wireless headsets?), and it require only minor adjustment of their proprietary tech to combine both.

Then what? Leather is a symbol of expensive, yet you'll find a lot of luxury/expensive clothes that aren't leather, in watches, tourbillon is a huge sign of top end and expensive, yet a LOT of expensive watches doesn't have it.
In what other market other than smartphones you'll find such a cliché without any exceptions?
People constantly hating phones for any reasons is the actual reason this market is so messed up and why diversity has died.
When whatever you do, there are people who already have what they are looking for, complaining about it as if it prevented them to get their desired item, you can't anymore know what customers want…
So you don't care anymore for their demand and you FORCE them into whatever is the easiest for you, brand war is the ONLY thing that drive this market, otherwise smartphone wouldn't even improve/evolve/get new features, consumer demand and regard is completely dead in this market.
Where the heck did I said I wanted niche brands to do that?

AnonD-909757, 20 Jan 2022And what you have failed to realize is that I talk about A ... more"Don't you see that except for Sony and some gaming smartphones, ALL middle range, high end and flagships have either a punch hole or a teardrop notch?"
Just because every car has 4 wheels, one steering wheel and one engine doesn't mean there is no diversity in automotive market. Every industry that is based on the same product will have a set of important design elements common to them.

"Well, guess what, there are some brands who already do that in the smartphone world, the issue is that those aren't big enough to offer some high-end services/features/options the big brands do AND they are a drop of water in the ocean in term of diversity."
No, dude. Don't try to mislead anyone with two similar, yet totally different products. These are not "niche" products, but an entire different category of smartphone called "rugged smartphones".
Nevertheless, you just proved my point. No brand in smartphone industry can make enough profit to grow and expand by offering products to such small audience. The CAT's smartphones divisions made merely £61 million.
Although, it is a "category of smartphones" and not "niche" products, both of them have comparable size of audience. And cannot earn more than to just survive themselves, forget growth of such brands.
I think major manufacturers are doing whatever they can to offer "niche" products. Xiaomi have "mix" series, BBK keeps launching weird smartphones in vivo and OPPO lineup, etc. And taking these to completely mainstream will be suicidal.

"Basically all the flagships have curved edge display"
You know what? Curved display is very impractical, but it is a symbol of "expensive" phone. Apple doesn't provide curved display and gets a ton of hate from Fandroids calling it a "lack of innovation" (sure there are many reasons for calling them so, but their design is one of them). And the moment an Android brand starts offering flat screens, they'll recieve the similar hate.
"none have a 3.5mm Jack, that you can say whatever you want, but there is no valid reasons to remove it except to force users to buy AirPods and their equivalent."
"they actually profit even after the sell because of all the user data they exploit and *forced accessories and services*"
So, basically, you don't want mainstream manufacturers to force you with accessories, provide pop-ups to ensure "privacy" but want niche brands to force accessories, services and exploit your data. That's the definition of hypocrisy.

SShreyas, 20 Jan 2022As far as I remember, I encountered you in 2020 with this v... moreAnd what you have failed to realize is that I talk about A LOT of things, but every time I talk about pop-up, even in the middle of a LONG list, there HAS to be someone, who, just like you did, focus SOLELY on that, because there is a hate against it.
In fact, even when I am not talking about it, someone brings it because I am "nearby".
I'll defend whatever tech is falsely accused, and so far, there have never been anything in the smartphone world that has been so wrongly accused as the pop-up.
I've proved, with solid evidences, math, real world example, and logic times and times again, that all those allegations are either, greatly exaggerated or totally false.
That's why. And you've fail to see a LOT of people then.

              Are you serious?
Don't you see that except for Sony and some gaming smartphones, ALL middle range, high end and flagships have either a punch hole or a teardrop notch?
It isn't as if there isn't any alternatives, there are a lot of them, from the totally normal and great bezel to no front camera or even much better alternatives to underdisplay camera like “disappearing cameras”.
Yet, middle-range have all punch holes and teardrop notches and flagship have all punch holes.
Basically all the flagships have curved edge display, none have a 3.5mm Jack, that you can say whatever you want, but there is no valid reasons to remove it except to force users to buy AirPods and their equivalent.
Almost all fingerprint scanner are optical under the display, despite capacitive being much better and ultrasonic being equally great, with a potential much greater than capacitive.
Things move toward portless despite magnetic connector being a thing, and when they'll start, ALL the middle range and higher phones from the major brands will be portless that you like it or not.
Camera setup are more often than not the same, many have 2Mp useless camera combo.
So, NO, there is NO diversity, and it ISN'T because a SINGLE model is different that you can say there is.
And there was no valid reason to actually dump this tech, it was for two reasons :
1: People are stupid and started to badmouth it, going all fearmongers with tons of lies that proved wrong every-times.
2: Because you can't be spied upon with it, worse, it actually tells you when you are, before the pop-up, being spied upon by the front camera on smartphones was a conspiracy theory, then now it is common knowledge, funnily it was already common knowledge since a while on computer who are far more secure than Android is.
So, tell me what diversity there is when ALL phones have the SAME thing?
A thing that is so full of issues that you shouldn't even consider making it anywhere near a norm.

False, they are not, they actually profit even after the sell because of all the user data they exploit and forced accessories and services.
Well, guess what, there are some brands who already do that in the smartphone world, the issue is that those aren't big enough to offer some high-end services/features/options the big brands do AND they are a drop of water in the ocean in term of diversity.
It is the case of CAT, a great example of that, being SOLELY dedicated to that, other brands do it in a lesser extent, such as Ulefone or Blackview who also cover niches.
And there are a LOT of things that could bring the cost down, and guess what, diversity is actually one of them, diversity mean learning to reusing a LOT of the same base components, production chain and other things, it even includes streamlining the software support toward a more unified one that require less overall work.

I have NEVER said that modern smartphones are overpriced, that a single model is, maybe, I don't remember, but if anything I've explained multiple times why with components shrinking, new and more complex techs, more R&D required, and all of that, price are bound to get higher, and don't get me started on silicon shortage.

Then sometime again in 2021 and now in 2022. I don't know if this happens with me, but I only find you talking about pop-ups and only you who talks of pop-ups. I haven't met a single guy who is crying for pop-up camera. NOT A SINGLE ONE, at least on GSMArena.

No diversity? Lol. Well, even same brands have quite an amazing design variety of smartphones and you aren't able to observe that. The sole reason is, the industry tried a concept which you like and industry DUMPED it long ago and you're unable to see diversity since then.

Do you know that smartphones are sold for paper thin margin because of competition and needs to be sold in bulk to even recover the cost, let alone profit. And if you think any brand can solely devote itself to "niche's niche's niche products" and can be profitable in smartphone industry, then I haven't encountered any more illogical argument.

Well, if a guy is calling a decent priced smartphone "overpriced" just because a 2 year old smartphone costs less, I can't think of anything else other than a fanboy. Can you suggest some other term? Definitely not something like "sane", "rational" or "logical"
