Oh come on Google shouldn't have said that the new Wear OS won't work with any older processors and now they're throwing this s*** at us either they don't want to make the watch and they want to be a flop or they're just a bunch of f****** idiots that work at Google.

SShock, 19 May 2022Same could be said for phones then. Why bother updating the... moreBecause the update is part of the phone's price. When they launched it, they're commited to provide update for that particular phone. Furthermore, developing update for phones is NOT done from scratch. Most of the code can be reuse with slight changes. It's still some work, but the workload is not that much (that's why an independent custom rom developer could manage it).

What you expect on the other hands, need COMPLETE reworks of the code since the OS is changed. Now that's A LOT works to do. And by a lot I mean it is literally the same work needed as if they launch a new smartwatch altogether. It's NOT comparable to updating Android 11 to 12, but rather as if you are changing the os from iOS to Android...

Why bother updating them when the model was relevant last year and no longer produced this year? Yet we don't think that way. Why should smartwatches be as disposable and with zero support like smartphones from 15 years ago?

Why would they spend millions of dollars to build wearOS from scratch for older smartwatch that even no longer produced?? as long as it performs well I dont see an issue.

So, there's no good reason my Galaxy Watch3 couldn't be upgraded to WearOS, given that the hardware can handle it. Samsung just won't do it.

As always with Google, I'll wait for the second (Or third) iteration when it'll be better. They could've ask to Samsung though; it's a non sens that they can't deliver something so ... 'basic' ?
