ahj, 06 Mar 2013Read again, you're talking bs... Nah man.. He's right.. We have high price services At really low quality.. Things are changing.. Of course we have bennefits.. But buying a nice smartphone here is pretty xpensive. The public department who watch for the carriers to do things right is changing stuff for the joy of the users.. But we still have a long way to go.

I hope so because it's ridiculous the restrictions people try putting on phones taking your legal ownership away.

Did you know that in Brazil unlocked phones are mandatory? One's carrier HAVE to unlock if requested. Did you know that here in Brazil we can change carriers and keep the same number? Thats called portability here. Did you know that, unless u got any benefits from the carrier (like phone discount), there is not a minimum contract length, you can leave it whenever you want, without paying anything..

But also did u know that with the price of an iphone 5 64 gb here in Brazil you can buy a 2 way ticket to the usa, by your iphone and come back with a lill bit of money in your pocket?

Reese, 05 Mar 2013For all the people who support the illegalization of unlock... moreAnd let's not forget in the actual 4g network(LTE Advance, soon to be marketed as 5G gimmick in the near future) will become unlimited once again but it's gonna sucker you for a expensive fee and then as the internet evolves, everything will be not so unlimited anymore!

                      hi to all,
brilliant thing is that unlocking the phones will be regulated by the law. Right here in Serbia we only have 3 providers and one of them (will not mention the companies) will give you unlock code as soon as you ask after your contract expires, second will not give the code (play fool) and its up to you will you continue to use the services or cancel the contract after it expires, and third one is a jewel, they will not give the code and if you want quit after contract expiration, they will TAKE THE PHONE BACK. So the law regulations such is yours would be more than welcome here. Regards

unlocking was only made illegal for like 39 days so far and for what i have no idea.... you can buy unlocked phones all you want here but if u want it at the carriers subsidized price then u sign a contract but the big carriers will unlock it for u for free if you travel outside the US and/or if u finish your contract with them.

For all the people who support the illegalization of unlocking a cell phone, don't you worry. I'm sure the carrier's here in the states will find a different way to screw us over and keep us locked into their overpriced service. They're quite creative!

It would be completely illegal to make locking legal for simple reasons. 1st of all the providers don't make profit on the cell phones themselves because they sell them very close to the price they got them from manufacturers. Their profit comes from the services they offer. 2nd wether you buy the phone full price or cancel your contract for it you end paying the value of device depending on how long you have stayed with the company, so in that case the company will still have made some money on that device. If companies want to keep their customers they should just work better on their services.

A lot of phones can be unlocked with software nowadays so the chances of getting caught are nil.

Trust America to have laws such as this...

My god! I thought the USA was a free contry. It is about time that the US citizens are allowed to unlock their phones at the end of their contractual commitments. The phone companies have the obligation to respect that right of the citizens in many countries that are not supposed to be as free as the USA.
