If, say... apple doesn't patent everything and let their technology go around, then other companies will get them, improve them, compete them with the competition's versions, improve them again, compete them again, and again and again till it reaches perfection.

Stuff like this is precisely why I abandoned HTC's sinking ship and switched to Samsung. It didn't even take all that long for all the stuff from the Note 2 to be ported to the S3. And it's not like they actually -needed- those goodies--The S3 was a good phone without them. It was a clear example of after-sales service.
HTC, on the other hand, totally fails at that sort of thing. Yes, if you buy an HTC One, you'll probably get an update to 5.0 at some point, but after that, you're getting kicked to the curb. HTC has even been caught lying multiples times, saying that x Android version won't run on y device because the hardware won't run it, only to have that a dev on xda get x running on y with little to no issues at all.

They ... morei dont realy think it is an issue about samsung wanting money or not, it is just a follow up on what most brands were already doing. we have apple for example, the panorama feature was introduced for the iPhone5 but it was also made available for the iphone 4S, same as the pasbook and many other iOS6 goodies. there is the snap button for camera as well that came with the iphone 4S, the iphone 4 was not deprived off this feature as well. so basically its not a first with Samsung. its more of the market rather than the brand.

You guys are silly. No one said if you have a S3 you have to upgrade. The S4 is targeted at S2 users ready for a new phone. Samsung is smart because as someone already mentioned, "they keep on doing updates so their customers don't switch".

They are also considering that their customers won't regret that they bought their products like S3. So that in the future, people will still buy their products due to software updates which is definitely helpful and saves money. This is what you call "being practical".

I myself will not upgrade until I find the need for it, using note2 and works better than my laptop... could do better if the design was better, or you could buy wireless charger for note 2 when it comes out...

Why port all the cool features to the S3? Samsung should keep them as S4 exclusives to make the S4 more desirable and also tempt the S3 owners to upgrade. The S3 is already a great device, and people that are happy with it won't complain. If they are unhappy, it becomes an opportunity to make money by selling them an S4.

This company copied that blah blah blah we know the 3 main companies that sued each other 1 Californian cos the SHAPE is similar. 1korean cos they were too dumb to patent there good stuff and the Californians copied and patented it After the fact and the other Finnish that came up with the idea of a colour screen and didn’t think to patent. It’s pathetic. Soon we will be seeing each other in court cos our heads are roughly the same shape. If it’s better its better. Please don’t mention the Californians you might get sued or worse, they take what you said use it and patent it then sue us all. there were smart phones before apple people they were as innovative then as the Smartphone’s in 20 years are but apple wasn’t the 1st wasn’t always the best and for most of its heyday used components from its competitors*with licensing*

Sammy i just lov ya so much I am using a Note2 currently.N m hoping n wating fr those goodies frm S4 to get it in my Note2 if dat happens then u will be d best fr me fr rest of d life ..gud going sammy keep it up.N thanks to know ur consumers taste..gud luck fr future..

AnonD-121012, 16 Mar 2013also an octa core which other phones don't have :)But already someone has pointed out that with only one of the two quad-core active at a time, the phone will mostly be running on the less powerful quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 which is less powerful than the S3's quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9. Sounded about right to me.
