I could also get one of those fancy M.2 type C dock + builtin battery with 2TB M.2 NVMe or those 4TB sata or a 16TB spinning rust which is much better option than just a 1TB slowass sd card

SuperSpruce, 13 Apr 2023That's not true. Prices nowadays are half that.I'm from Eastern Europe and these are the lowest prices for ORIGINAL SD cards from SanDisk, not for clones/fakes. Europe pays a lot more than USA for electronics because of taxes (in case you didn't know)
Anything below those prices are 100% fake.
A Note 20 Ultra - a 3 year old phone - is still around 1000-1100 euro/dollars here. Why? Because it's one of the last high-end flagship phones that still has the SD card slot.

It's great that Google finally adopt this feature. Hopefully it gets pushed to more handsets, especially ones with 32GB/64GB storage.

blue, 12 Apr 2023We're past ancient technology. Are we? Then what's this new feature here trying to solve that was already solved years ago? The fact that It's now just rolling out should tell you that its not 'in the past' if we keep making problems and then finding inefficient solutions.

Like I said, if you don't want to have corrupt data or fake SD cards, go buy an ORIGINAL one from a REAL shop.
There are so many fakes out there...
PS ALWAYS test the SD card in the store where you've purchased it from! ALWAYS buy it from a trusted shop!
Dongles, cables, usb otg are very inconvenient and they will only damage the USB port on the long run .

The best a poorer person can do is a sata to usb A and usb A to usb micro/C with a sata SSD, there probably not enough power for spinning rust HDD unless you get one of those powered adapter and a powerbank to power it.

It's 1/6 to 1/3 the price per TB and not to mention faster assuming your phone isn't limited by USB 2 Type C.

I'm on my 3rd SD card and never had any speed issues, corrupt data etc. That happens only with cheap replicas.
Nobody is installing apps on the SD card. What is this? 2010? SD cards are used to store data and the internal memory is used for installing apps, Urkell.
If the SD card is obsolete, answer one simple question: Where is the swappable microSSD for smartphones? Where is that slot located in a phone ?

This is one more reminder that I am not their target user. I just about never run out of space, never bothering to add an SD card when I had phones that supported it.

But I also don't want all this cloud dependency. I've sometimes wanted the opposite of this archive function. I want to disable a downloaded app so it does not run at all but keep the app and data on the phone. I might want to enable it and use it temporarily and then disable it again without downloading or resetting it. I just want it to have zero chance of running background code or intercepting an intent or doing any monitoring of my activity while it is disabled.
