Sony Xperia 1 V unveiled with Exmor T stacked sensor, 4K OLED display

11 May 2023
The new sensor should be twice as good as its predecessor in low light.

Hope sony could do online shop that can shipped here in Philippines

"Hopefully not, Oppo managed to fit a type 1 main sensor along with 2 type 1/1.56 auxiliary sensors, each for the telephoto and the UWA cameras. Sony would be joking themselves if they had to get rid of the other cameras just to accommodate the space for a "good" main camera, or they'd better bring at least a M43 sensor to justify such a decision lol."

That's a fair point. If Oppo can fit all those lenses then Sony should be able to do the same. I would assume they want to keep the phone thin and reduce the camera bump. Who knows maybe Sony starts making M43 lenses for their Xperia PRO-I series lol. That would be interesting to see.

I'm also hoping to see their new tech on their RX100 series.

SuuperBaka, 12 May 2023From my understanding of QB sensors, there aren't too ... moreA 48MP QB sensor and a 12MP Bayer sensor theoretically could have a very similar readout speed because on the former each group of 4 pixels are binned into 1 before being read out, which is why Sony could make a switch to it on this new Xperia. Some phones (e.g. Asus Snapdragon Insider) use the one-shot HDR capability of QB by capturing different exposures across those 4 pixels, but what most flagship and midrange phones implement nowadays is the full-resolution mode and/or 2x crop from the full-resolution image. The noise level should be similar between the two as long as the QB sensor uses the binning mode.

" feel like a 25MP-32MP regular Bayer sensor with this new sensor tech is better than a 100MP+ QB sensor with both of them having a 1-inch sensor"
Not really. The former brings almost no advantage over the latter, especially when we now have this 2-layer transistor pixel tech where almost the entire surface area of each pixel can be used to collect light. Phone lenses are not sharp enough to resolve 100MP across the frame, but the 2x zoom could benefit from the extra resolution since the centre of the lens is usually much sharper than the corner. And no, there's no difference in thickness between a regular Bayer sensor and a QB sensor.

"If the PRO-I ii is going to have a good main camera, it probably needs to sacrifice the UW and telephoto for space"

                      Yeah basically.

"hey can say combined to 2.4um pixels all they want but I guarantee an actual 2.4um photo diode has better light sensitivity still over a qb one."

Agreed. I also think an actual 2.4um diode is better than a QB version.

Great improvement over the Mark iv.
(much better image quality, 40% faster cpu, no overheating problems, sound with more bass, etc.)
However, the video quality is still not on par with the Iphone.

Nick Tegrataker, 12 May 2023I'm not a leaker so I don't know for real if Sony... moreFrom my understanding of QB sensors, there aren't too many benefits to them other than cropping, better noise reduction, and HDR. The readout is shorter on a normal Bayer sensor which is why Sony kept using them since they wanted to get that 20fps shooting (which is now 30fps with the new sensor). I only keep up with the QB sensors from time to time, so I'm probably not caught up to the latest tech.

If I'm incorrect in my understanding, please feel free to correct and educate me on the topic. At the moment, I feel like a 25MP-32MP regular Bayer sensor with this new sensor tech is better than a 100MP+ QB sensor with both of them having a 1-inch sensor. The problem I see is the space and bump required for a regular Bayer (Nokia 808 comes to mind).

If the PRO-I ii is going to have a good main camera, it probably needs to sacrifice the UW and telephoto for space. Maybe they can have lens attachments for UW and telephoto similar to Xiaomi and Leica. It is the PRO "Imaging" phone anyways, so that's not too far-fetched. There's always the option to crop from the main camera as well.

Really like they retain the audio jack. Audio monitoring lag free, video recording with 3.5mm shotgun mics, fidelity, so many reasons to have it.
