AnonD-133120, 17 Apr 2013whatever happened to iOS?I.OS will get no where close to android the only reason being no handsets below 500$mark where as android starts at 50$ how much of us on the planet can afford 500$ handsets.

It's a lame stat because there is only x amount of people that uses smartphones and the activation #s is just telling us people change phones but not really are new customers. I go through about 8-10 Android activations each year because I like to try out a different phone, tablet, or device. It doesn't mean I am a new customer meanwhile I'm being counted as 10 new customers.

OK guys, you talk about new device activation. But how about how many devices was deactivated daily? This never gets in charts. The same as the mobile operators - one says we have 10 M users for example. But that is not true. If they mean 10M records in the MySQL table 'users', this is not equal how many SIMs actually are active and used. Every day tens of thousands SIMs/devices go to trash and etc.

I'm wondering if this activation means logging into google accounts or booting up the device for the firs time. This would happen when ecer you do factory rest or change the Os version. Either way these numbers are invalid, because when you do factory reset or update the phone it stars from 0. But if it's just google account logging in that means everytime you remove your whole browser information and start it up again you will log in your account.Im not saying this to provike, because I like android very much and typing this message through my xperia, but either way these numbers are not telling the whole story.

Android is free and open. It comes built into tons of $50 devices sold daily. But also on mid- to high-end ones (even Vertu has an Android flagship). So it's perfectly reasonable to expect the huge lead. Competitors are paid OSes and expensive too.
