Apple might be working on a more affordable Vision Pro headset for a 2025 release

12 June 2023
The more affordable version will aim at mass adoption rather than a tech showcase.

They and others can implement in smartphones front 3D cameras like TOF for safer face recognition and greatly rid of notch to punch hole camera screen cutout. Also rid of pin and template autorization because its not safe.

You just gotta laugh..... I don’t know how Apple does it..... but on all reality, I’m gonna grab a Meta Quest......$400 is fair for AR/VR..... $3,500 is more than what I paid my Uncle for his 2003 Mercedes Benz....lol

If the pro/original starts at US$3500, a cheaper model going for US$2500 i(made-up price) is an improvement (it's cheaper), even though it's still expensive overall.

In any case, Apple and cheap don't ever go together in the same sentence.

The problem this time is, none of the rich feels excited about the product to actually be interested to buy it, so the marketing strategy would be to get the risk takers to provide the first bucket of gold (the idiots who will buy anything apple), then release something for the poor people to get them excited and app developers interested, then release a new expensive version so that those who bought the first generation will buy again, and hopefully those who bought the cheap one will be forced to upgrade.

That is Apple's problem: this time they came out with a product nobody knows about or would feel excited about, with no killer apps. Everyone things that VR equipment is comparable.

You can get a Vision Pro for way cheaper by $3330.

Get a cardboard VR headset and a decent phone with AMOLED display (my example is Redmi note 12 4G)

And download a third party app which has similar functions.

And voila! A $169 cardboard Apple Vision Pro.

might be..... but they probably will release a cheaper one soon enough

                      So...Vision Pro SE? lol

just a smile, 12 Jun 2023But it's cheaperApples "cheaper" versions will still cost an arm and a leg so not really cheap. Headsets from other companies will still be much cheaper.

Anonymous, 13 Jun 2023Still won't make me buy one. I'd rather see more ... moreSadly those what they have released is not "true AR glasses".

Maybe with Qualcomm AR2 chipset based glasses from those companies will be "true AR glasses".

Rumors say that AR2 chipset based "true AR glasses" are later this year or next year from several companies.

But Meta having that EMG based wrist device(for controlling ui and typing etc) with smart glasses(with display) coming 2025 could be much usable compared to those little companies making "true AR glasses".

I am probably going to buy anyway AR2 chipset based "true AR glasses" even if it Meta smart glasses with display(and those sweet EMG wrist device) coming 2025 would be better for my use cases.

My use case for first gen smart/AR glasses would be watching videos, typing messages, getting directions, browsing the web, just basically smart phone/watch usage but with "bigger" screen on face.

I just cannot wait till 2025 for getting Meta smart glasses with display, i want something sooner!

With Meta releasing "true AR glasses" in 2027 i want much more than that like mixed reality usage(like watching videos with friends and family with virtual avatars, gaming(even somewhat replacing VR glasses for some use cases), having ability to blend virtual and true world together etc.

This is marketing trick. It is not about the price. They are well aware it is prohibitively expensive and it goes against their dream to become mainstream. It won't go mainstream even if it costs 500$ for many other reasons. Their original Pro version is just a concept that is polished for the expo displays but don't really exist. It follows the exact same formula as their ridiculous headphones. Have you seen anyone wearing them and how are they selling? Is there a second generation?

They don't have to cut down on anything to lower the price. The display type and resolution are completely outweighed by the fact they are postage stamp size.
And the sensors are not that insane. And there would be zero excise to cut down on the chip unless they charge next to nothing.
It's a marketing bs and nothing will ever weigh out.

The price will be exceedingly high for no reason except to make their shareholders profit or to make it slightly less over priced but still severely over priced still they will cripple it.
