Motorola Defy Satellite Link is finally available in the US, works with any iPhone or Android

29 June 2023
It was announced back in February.

Sort by:

It is the same technology as used by the Cat S75 phone. Mediatek nb-iot chip with the skylo network, and it works fine in the UK - it worked here before the US. I don't know if it will be sold in the UK, or there will be a CAT branded product which is the same. The cat s75 is the same as the Motorola defy 2 ( or something like that)

Is there any reason why it would not work in the UK?

4 days battery is quite poor for a device you would want to take on an expedition, especially if it is used to provide location updates. Just stick in a 2000+ mah battery and make it last 2 weeks.

Good to see the Defy brand come back with more stuff. The name stood for rugged durability, and hopefully this Satellite Link is durable too.

Anonymous, 30 Jun 2023China spy satellites can now patch straight through to this... moreBro thinks China is the only company that do spy and thinking US or EU will never do such thing secretly 💀

BrianCoriour, 30 Jun 2023Motorola you do know that doing this is useless for people ... moreiirc there are only 4 companies nowadays* that implemented this feature on their specific (not all) phones (Huawei with their Mate 50 Series, XS2, X3, P60 series, and Nova 11 Ultra; Apple with their iPhone 14 Pro series; Motorola with their Defy 2; and Cat with their S75). All of them even just released in 2022.

*I said nowadays because if we counted from all that ever existed there will be 5 companies in total. Thuraya X5-Touch, an Android phone that launched in 2018 that also supports this satellite connectivity. But I don't think this phone still gets software support that's why I didn't counted that anymore.

Great job, the spirit innovation are still motorola

Motorola you do know that doing this is useless for people that are buying the new phones that come with satellite stuff installed right. Maybe should've done this like maybe early 2000s or 2010 and up or even 2015...............

I'll bet the subscription plan going to cost your kidneys 😏

It reminds me of some good ol' Symbian phones. Some of them did not include GPS function so you needed to buy a separate GPS receiver to use navigation. You might need to stick it on the windshield.
