Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 may not arrive with an IP58 rating after all

03 July 2023
Z Fold5 will most likely retain the IPX8 rating of its predecessor.

Samsung getting slaughtered by Chinese in foldables :D I mean Chinese realize how to remove crease, but Samsung can't or doesn't see a need, but really it's a shame. Sounds like fold 5 will be the same as fold 4 which was the same as fold3, really there is no reason to even consider Samsung foldable anymore, same crap unless you can get them really cheap.

It still ipx8, weight slightly reduced, no gaps when folded.

justasmile, 04 Jul 2023Best in running unoptimised apps, you mean?Chinese foldables have little crease compared to Samsung, better design, thin, light, reasonable size, comfortable holding, and it doesn't form that triangular space when you close it, that's only the case with Samsung Z Folds, and Google apps still run well on Chinese foldables. I don't know why people think Google apps are that necessary but even though Google apps still run well on Chinese foldables, the only problem I've seen in in Chrome app only for the Mix Fold 2. But all other Google apps just run well on Chinese foldables
Again if you get trouble from downloading Chrome you can use Firefox, Mi Browser, Samsung internet, etc. They are available on PlayStore.
CHINESE FOLDABLE PHONES ARE THE BEST

I am not here to bash this or that company or device but some people needs a lesson because they will never learn.
For me ts just another day at my work at my company advising new customers with plenty of goods etc.

justasmile, 03 Jul 2023Yeah, with Google apps not optimized for them. And yet they are the best

Man since when was note 7,I mean who are still craving for them when Samsung are trying to be Samsung (regarding Apple and Chinese competitors)
You just walk up to every single article regarding Samsungs folds and blah blah blah. It won't pay.
I'm most times calm just reading comments because something I know for sure is that 99% of account owners in here have nothing to contribute to phone-techs neither been able to afford the tech they praise most and it's like turning GsmArena to FunArena

Samsung was probably testing it until they felt comfortable with the certification. More than likely the Z5 will have some dust protection. That is probably where the leak came from, but Samsung is probably not ready to give the rating until they test it further.

We don't even know if dust is the cause of damaged screens. I think it plays a part in some situations, but we don't know if that is the underlying issue.

IPX8 meand no ... moreIPX8 doesn't mean no protection against dust (that would be IP08), it means it's not certified for dust. Given that IPX8 is water resistant at 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, and IP5X means that dust ingress does not impact the function of the device, it's safe to assume that such a water resistant device will also offer a high level of dust protection, even if not explicitly certified as such.

LOL..please detail for us how a battery should not lose more than 150 per year and what research that came from particularly since individual usage, charging and the environment will greatly impact battery loss

Please, do not ever open your computer to clean, since you do not believe dust can cause overheating, since protection against it is "gimmick".

For 1000000th time, warranty covers accidents, not intentional submersion.

You still have not explained why chinese phones are using lame screen on super expensive phones. 1500 euros mi 13 ultra has less than 240Hz flickering, bad calibration, uneven brightness. Even worse than s23 ultra.
Exactly what is seen from sub-$300 phones. 😹😹😹😹😹😹

Mswahili, 03 Jul 2023Best foldables are from China Samsung's ones are worseNot according to sales. The Z series outsells every foldable in China except Huawei and the Mate X is $800 dollars more than the Z Fold.

If they can't take advantage of the hardware advantages then it won't matter. They simply are not pushing their foldables because it's not a profitable investment for them. They are just in it for FOMO.

They are cost-cutting, but they aren't dumb. The thing is that there is simply no major competition in the foldable market globally
I'm sure that they are developing and refining the fold a lot, but right now there is not much reason for them to invest money into production, when most people's only option are them if they are interested in a foldable device
It's also worth to consider that the flip is way more popular than the fold, so they are trying to make it appeal more, hence why they are including a bigger outer screen on the next one. They are only doing this because Motorola and Oppo released their flip phones, which can quite frankly incline a lot of customers away from their flip, so they kinda need to keep theirs on par with them
Other than Apple, none of them could pose a threat to Samsung currently when it comes to folding phones

Welp, guess Imma keep my fold 4 after all. Thankfully, more foldables from different brands are becoming available globally. This will put a lot of pressure on lazy Samsung
