susbutgood, 17 Jul 2023Well, but the thing is 5 years update promise with a medioc... moreI am using Fairphone 2 still today. And yes, it is slooooow! But I think, todays chips are way over the top of what everyday tasks require, it shouldn't be a braker so soon.
And as long as the smartphone owners are willing to use their phone, they should be able to. Lacking security updates should not be the bottleneck. So: If someone finds the phone to slow, he can sell it to someone who is fine with it.
By the way: What are the demanding task you are doing on your phone? Games? Video editing?

I need to buy a new phone with such "good enough" specs every year to run the apps I like. Isn't it much more sustainable to buy a super highend spec phone that lasts 3 years with acceptable performance instead of buying 3 phones in the same time?

Buying phone "good enough" | Buying phone "you don't need that power"
Year 1: okay | Year 1: Too much for current apps / overkill
Year 2: not okay anymore | Year 2: Still very capable
              Year 3: ----- | Year 3: good enough
              Year 4: ----- | Year 4: not okay anymore

Fairphone is not about, flashy gimmics and biffy hardware, nor is it just about the 'right to repair' modular device, it is WAY more then that, it is about workers being faired payed, metals comming from child free labor mines, violence and slave free mines, recycled materials and enviroment friendless. So yeah every inch in this device cost more then any iphone ever produced. To be able to keep the prices resonable for the population while keeping business afloat,

I really like the idea of the fairphone devices,I just hope that 1, the bezels shrink
2, they become more readily available in different regions
3, they begin offering more flagship oriented specs
And 4, the phones get smaller (although I understand this is way easier said than done, since not only is making good compact devices difficult when trying to cram a ton of features into them, with the added difficulty of a repair friendly design creating more bulk)
I really like the fairphone, and I hope to one day either see it become a product with a wide range of consumers, or maybe see it inspire other companies to copy it's design

Yeah, these are some good ones for sure.

"These TWS earbuds can sound better than a lot of wired IEMs. Though, it's a matter of preference."

I agree. The problem is that you're spending $200+ on earbuds in order to get good sound on TWS. Latency will still be inferior regardless, but that's not so much of an issue as we get newer tech to reduce the gap.

"And yes, a lot of TWS earbuds are not good, such as Raycon Everyday Earbuds ($79.99) and Nothing Ear (1) ($149). Don't be fooled by its price, though. A higher price doesn't mean a better quality product."

I know that. Most of them are pretty mid, only a few actually sound good. They charge a higher price to fool customers or because they market themselves a certain way.

"You can still buy wired IEMs that are significantly more affordable that are good with a dongle, such as an Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter ($9) and CCA CRA+ ($27.88, without mic, + $1 with mic)"

That's my problem, we as consumers shouldn't have to buy an adapter for a basic feature on a phone. I know there are dongles you can get, but it shouldn't be that way. Companies are greedy and forcing their earbuds down our throats to buy them and some people are deluded into actually getting them.

People can try and "justify" companies doing this, but it's clearly evident that it's for money. The space you "save" is extremely minimal, especially with phones being a minimum size of 6.0 inches

Wasn't Lahaina the code name for the SD888? Could be an underclocked 888 running behind the hood if so.
