16 August 2023
The phone also has nearly 10,000 sq. mm of cooling area, much more than any other mobile device.

Again the 2 mp macro! 😂😂😂

Inother words Nothing brand can be new Oneplus of the old times.

Any 24GB ram yes its an overkill like 6GB ram was overkill back then but it wasnt took long enough to be not enough i mean 6GB ram.
Soon or later but i think soon seeing the progress everywhere on every field in world even 24GB ram wont be enough just like the Apple laptop with possible of 96GB ram.
    Mark my words.
There are many clever creative minds out there with endless ideas and posibilities which can do things we cant eve imagine.
Some of them are well known some of them needs to be discovered but people like Albert Einstein or Thomas Alva Edison exists even today.

In other words whats impossible today will be possible tommorow and surpased day aftr by something newer and better.

Cpt.Power, 19 Aug 2023Well um maybe. Seeing a phoe with more than a 6GB ram 10 ... moreWell ok, let’s look at OnePlus as an example. Their first phone with 6gb ram was the 3 which released in 2016. 6gb ram was quite the boasting point back then, even though no real practical application for such a large pool of memory existed at that time.

And by the time such reasons did exist this device had long since fallen by the wayside in terms of ongoing support, marketing and public perception. As it currently stands the 3 is officially 5 full versions of Android out of date and probably hasn’t had any security updates since pre Covid times at least. Sure you can likely flash some custom rom featuring newer Android builds, and given the hardware it’ll run ok-ish, but a better experience today can be had by picking up any number of current low to mid range Android models.

That thought was obviously never OnePlus’s intention, equipping the device so that customers could still use the OnePlus 3 5-7 after release by making use unofficial software. This would be counter productive to the growth of their business. No, obviously the 6gb of ram then, like the 24gb now, was there more to raise eyebrows, get attention and differentiate in an ever crowding market.

There is no practical application currently requiring anything close to 24gb of ram on a smartphone, and by the time there is this Ace 2 Pro will be a distant memory, and a memory that OnePlus themselves would rather you forgot in favour of whatever shiny new device (featuring, I dread to think how much ram) they will be hopping to sell at that time.

On the subject of fast watt charging we’ll just have to agree to disagree, as I have never been sold on these rapidly increasing numbers, and I’m sure not plugging any smartphone into anything close to 100w chargers (let alone 150w) in my house, anytime soon.

In the end I do get it, like I said earlier the Android space is crowded and highly competitive, OnePlus have a need to get as much attention on their products as possible and ever more ridiculous specs are a sure way to do that. That doesn’t change the fact though that these specs are there for marketing reasons before any other.

DaFink, 19 Aug 2023Phones from 10 years ago are considered obsolete for more t... moreWell um maybe.
Seeing a phoe with more than a 6GB ram 10 years ago were impossible even a 6GB ram phones did not existed until 2015 i think.
In maybe 10 years phones with current specs will be also obsolette.
And yes 2 MPix macro is garbage just like anything below 100W charging.
Time is money, faster or bigger in phones is always better no matter where you look at apart the phone size.
Size of tablet and working as a phone does not slounds impressive but anything else would do.

Cpt.Power, 19 Aug 2023There is no. Soon or later 24GB ram wont be enough for ce... morePhones from 10 years ago are considered obsolete for more than just their ram limitations.
And I highly doubt it’s OnePlus’s intention to give this device a lifespan of a decade, jeez it’ll be lucky to see support for even a third of that timeframe.

No, far more likely this is a spec dump for nothing other than that ‘wow’ factor, see Android oems do know their market, and in the dog eat dog world of Android, more will always automatically equal better, even when that ‘more’ is actually quite redundant.

Take the 2mp Macro cam as another example, it doesn’t really have a place on this phone, or any phone in 2023 for that matter, it’s serves no real useful purpose, but three cameras on the back sounds better than two now doesn’t it?

So 24gb ram will also be better than 16gb, which is now not quite enough I’m guessing right?. 150w charging it is cause 100w is just too ram slow, right?

Don’t get me wrong, maybe in 2033, 24gb of ram on a smartphone will make more sense, here in 2023 though, not so much, well other than to raise some eyebrows at least 🤷

DaFink, 17 Aug 2023Pro gamer…..😂😂😂 Now there is a misnomer if ever there was one. There is no.
Soon or later 24GB ram wont be enough for certain apps.
Like 10 years ago 2GB ram was enough for most apps and games now is 2GB ram absolute garbage.

blue, 16 Aug 2023So? Whatever you need, 1 TB is nonsense, as is 24 GB RAM. This is the apple mindset. Can't imagine any use case different than your own and I'm stupid for suggesting maybe there are different use cases. That's dumb lol.

blue, 16 Aug 2023So? Whatever you need, 1 TB is nonsense, as is 24 GB RAM. Mass producing 1TB and 24GB ram will in return reduce prices for lower storage configurations

Their engagement has a value near zero in my mind. That's why most of us liked OnePlus on the first place, since the 'official' merge with BBK it's a downhill ... Sad 😕

                            2MP Macro cam shouldn't exist though 😅

The idea that you need a better camera to capture that "one moment in time" makes no sense when a budget phone captures the same photo but worse. The "moment" will still be captured. And if that moment is important or special to you, then it's not the quality of the photo that's going to make you happy, it's the memories you have when you see it.

Second idk why you linked a comparison to another phone or talked about the nothing phone. Neither have anything to do with what I said.

And yes, snapdragon charge way more then they should bc mediate and Samsung just aren't as good, or as popular names. Deminsity did outperform snapdragon in a few benchmarks last year, but they are famously very hard to optimise apps and games for compared to snapdragon, it's to do with snapdragon being the default option for so long.

And I phones will ofc perform better because apple make their own chipsets AND os. So they can optimise it perfectly whereas snapdragon isn't made by Google (google does have tensor socs but they aren't as good right now. When they start fabricating them on their own they might be better.

And apple don't technically buy their chips, since they make their own lol. They only pay manufacturing costs.

And it's not a "theory" that snapdragon charge a lot. They openly do it bc they have very little competition at the high end. That's why so many phones use the 778G, because Qualcomm probably charge very little for it now compared to the more modern chipsets that would perform better

[deleted post]I had a phone with 6 GB RAM, worked perfectly and smoothly whatever I needed. Now I have 8 GB, and I really don't see any reason for more. Luckily I'm not 15 anymore to boast with "look-what-my-phone-has" numbers.
