Google may soon roll out its Watch Unlock feature for easier phone unlocks

17 August 2023
It's quite similar to the Apple Watch unlock on iPhone.

They already had all of this in Android Wear, smart unlock, and what I miss the most, 2FA notification on watch, to login to google account.. When they created WearOS, they started from zero with everything.. dumba55es

idk. i only used fingerprint.. after so much time feels natural. to me fingerprint its enough
but if ppl want more.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anonymous, 17 Aug 2023That wouldn't be much more practical for people wearin... moreIf both are on the same hand then it would just unlock your phone for you lol. Maybe a fingerprint sensor built into your watch to unlock your phone? That would be cool

Can't this already be done by setting the smart watch as a trusted device in Smart Lock?

Pat. Pending: A clever way to do automatic unlock and screen-on is to combine data from UWB, accelerometers, location and a little computing to figure out that the watch is indeed in the hand of the owner and they now want the display to turn on.

            Sounds like fido2?

[deleted post]Small does not equal feminine. I would much prefer a 44mm watch from Google, along with bezels that are as small as the competition, but there are many masculine men whose wrists would be the right size for Google's small smartwatch.

What would be really cool is if you could tap your phone on your watch to unlock with nfc.

Darth Caesium, 17 Aug 2023Sounds like a security risk tbh.Considering a lot of people don’t use a pin or pattern on their smartwatch.

I rather see the other way around, on Apple Watch you can unlock your watch with your phone which makes much more sense to me, never saw that function on my WearOS watch, unless they buried it somewhere.

"During this year's CES, Google showcased its Watch Unlock feature, which is essentially just another way to unlock your phone apart from the fingerprint scanner or the face unlock."

Just anither bullshit feature nobody asked for and nobody needs.

Sounds like a security risk tbh.
