19 September 2023
TSMC reportedly declined the deal because of the low expected yield.

I know we're talking about next year chip releases with the Tensor G4 but Google will always stay a step behind for cost savings, and no one seems to dare use 3nm nodes (specially Samsung's - check this out: https://m.gsmarena.com/most_snapdragon_8_gen_3_chips_to_be_manufactured_by_tsmc-news-57040.php and look at what actually happened) right now due to cost and yield concerns.

Apple didn't necessarily reserve 90% of TSMC's 3nm production capacity out of greed(?). They surely wanted to be pioneers here but to hoard 90% of a fab's capacity alone speaks of how limited it is.

Shame they couldn't even get Samsung's 3nm. If you have to stick with Samsung, you couldn't at least get the best Samsung has to offer?

For Google, Pixels are made to exist for them to have a base hardware to develop their Android OS for as their first priority. The selling part for the consumers is just secondary, it's just designed for Google to have a bite of smartphone market pie.

And Google doesn’t really care. They’re an advertising company. As long as people use any Android with GMS, they make money.

I have been using Samsung phone with Exynos (made by Samsung foundry) for 3 years.

So satisfied, i will buy Samsung again as my next new phone.

                              Oh God help us...

Thankfully my wife's Pixel 7 Pro has been rock solid for her in terms of camera and battery life. Guess we got lucky.

"Nevertheless, the Google commitment could be read as a testament that Samsung Foundry finally found a way to manufacture chipsets, including Exynos platforms, that are not overheating, becoming more attractive to phone companies and customers."

Why should it mean that the new chip doesn't overheat? Google didn't care until now so why should change their attitude? 😆 Google staying with Samsung just means that they don't care about offering the best peoduct possible. Sadly they're still the only ones supported by GrapheneOS because of their security chip. Wish they would support e device like Poco F5 or Nothing Phones. No suprise that Chinese companies don't care about offering a suitable device but Nothing would do well to give consumers another argument why we should buy their devices.
