But in normal indoor usage 1V has better HDR than iPhone 14Pro, especially when you record something in HDR mode - Ive tested both in the same place. Soo when you want watch something in HDR in typical normal indoor space 1V has really good screen and calibration.

AlexPP, 30 Sep 2023Disagree I owned xperia 1, xperia 1 II, xperia 1 III, xpe... moreI think its more like you've never had anything with a better display. If you compare the same generation Samsung or Apple phones you'd see that the screen is higher quality on the Samsung and Apple. I mean this is literally proven in reviews on GSM arena, other review outlets, and youtubers. This doesn't mean the Sony has a bad display when compared to say a entry level phone or mid range phone, but it is def not the best when you compare them to similarly priced phones from the competition.

I think Sony Mobile should focus on making a single High-End or "Super High-End" device (something close to the Xperia Pro-I).
Paying more for the best device that a top brand makes (in this case, Sony) would be justifiable.
For example, a 4K screen is not necessary for the vast majority of users, but having this feature could justify the higher price.

Sony should "update/change" some of its personnel in the mobile department.

I owned xperia 1, xperia 1 II, xperia 1 III, xperia pro-i and xperia 1 V right now. Never had screen color issues. I'm sure, people lie about sreen issues on Sony smartphones, because of jealous.

Anonymous, 28 Sep 2023At least Americans can buy the xperia 1, Canadians have to ... moreAmerica does these blocks too. You're required to "activate" the phone with the carrier. Depending on the carrier this can be extreme and only "approved" phones will work on their network even if the phone has the correct LTE/5G band support it will not work without approval from the carrier. More lenient carriers will still let you use the device but I definitely see all the carriers slowly moving towards that direction.

                  - limited software support
Disagree. Not as limited as many other names from China, although not as generous as Samsung nor Google either.
                  - lackluster and flawed non-camera components
Some components, yes. Particularly on SoC's thermal management. Screen? Nope. Chassis? Nope.
                  - generational degradation or removal of features
Strongly disagree. Lots of Chinese flagship fare worse. No feature removal from OS updates heard as well.
                  - dependence on a nearly decade-old design
Agree. They've been holding too much onto their design like Apple.
                  - firmware integration
Strongly disagree. Their firmware is great, on par with Samsung and Apple. And apart from iPads with iPadOS 17, Xperia is the only gadget you could use as camera monitor for filmmaking.
                  - pricing
Agree. Their pricing is getting out of hand lately.
                  - global availability
Strongly agree. Their gadgets have been unavailable in lots of countries, it's baffling.

That means paying $1500 for what will become a brick when 3G is unavailable.

USA has never been a big market for the Xperia, so it's not that surprising for Sony to make this move. I do feel sorry for the Americans who love the Xperia line.

This was the year I was planning to get an Xperia, but oh well. Their flagship is too expensive and big for my tastes. There's also no point in a screen that size being 4K. Guess I'll either get a Pixel or wait for the Zenfone 11.
