almost no differences between regular ps5 and ps5 slim in terms of dimension.

Anonymous, 11 Oct 2023Xes.... PS5 is currently sold 41.7 million units and XBox ... moreMicrosoft's tactic was this:
    Xbox Series S = 1080p
    Xbox Series X = 2160p
....in that sense the XSS is actually FASTER than the XSX. So it might be able to get 50-60fps, whilst the XSX gets limited to 40-50fps at best. But then again this was with the expectation with the technology and standards back in 2019-2021. But now we've got much more heavy gaming engine and standards, part of that is Sony's fault.

Hindsight being 20/20, it would've been much better if MS sent developer kits to their partners and companies back in 2019 with the known XSS specifications, and kept it at that. Sony may have responded with a weaker PS5, to increase their profit margin. Then at the last minute MS changes direction, and responds by saying their developer box is the specifications for their portable/handheld console. Basically like the ASUS ROG Ally, but released in Late 2020, and making it fully backwards compatible with all Xbox One games (digital download only) to release it superbly. It could also have selective backwards compatibility with older Xbox and 360 titles as well (again digital only). Cutting Nintendo at the knees. And then in 2021 MS finally releases their next-generation console, something similar or slightly more powerful than the Xbox Series X.

You might think that's a bad tactic, but with the pandemic it would mean no-one gets a first-movers advantage. But Microsoft benefits greatly this generation by having the performance edge over both competitors. Forcing Sony to release a PS5 Pro, and forcing Nintendo to release a "Super Switch" years ahead of schedule. All the while Microsoft keeps fleshing out their Cloud Streaming Platform, to make their future more dominant. That doesn't mean everything, they still have to produce great games and perhaps make them exclusive.

....this is all fanfic of course, I just want every player to participate, innovative, and compete in the market.

imparanoic, 11 Oct 2023Size of the units and each mid refresh and how smaller they... moreThe difference has stayed consistent for everything but the Ps2 and that's becuase the slim came out so much later they jumped 2 lithography nodes instead of just one.
90 to 65nm is the same proportional difference as going from 45nm to 28nm or as 28nm or 16nm. The new PS5 just isnt using a newer node. 6nm is just a slightly refined 7nm. Sony cheaper out, if they were being consist they would have go for 5 or 4nm which is the standard 2/3rds size from the previous generation lithography node.

It's just as big a leap as 90 to 65nm or 45nm to 28nm. Its a logarithmic scale not linear. So going from 90nm to 65 isn't anymore significant than 7nm to 4nm.

Waiting and patience is good generally speaking. However I have wanted a ps5 that plays movies, weighs less, and has a slimmer body for 3 years. So, I am getting the new November 2023 ps5 model next month or in December.

Hopefully audio cds will play on the add on disc player. Not getting my hopes up tho. If they said, for 20 more you can play audio cds, I would pay it (sad but true).

PS5 is currently sold 41.7 million units and XBox (Both version) 21 million units - Quest2 VR headset is sold 20 millions.
                    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles#Best-selling_game_consoles

Also Microsoft made their own difficulty to have a powerful X and a not powerful S that all games should support with the same features. Yet, it has been proven difficulty to do that, so Baldur's Gate 3 don't have split screen on the S.
                    https://kotaku.com/baldurs-gate-3-xbox-series-x-s-split-screen-co-op-rpg-1850770513

Also specification wise, well the XBox (the faster one) have 2 TFLOPS (12) more and the CPU is up to 3.8 GHz (the faster one) instead of 3.5 GHz. Yet, the slower have only 4 TFLOPS (1/3) and their cores goes up to 3.6 GHz (max).
Additional the have fast and slow RAM (10 GB fast / 6 GB slow or 8 GB not so fast / 2 GB not fast at all) where the PS5 has 16 GB fast memory (little slower than the XBox fast fast memory as 448 GB/s vs 560, but faster than all other XBox's memory speed 336 GB/s, 224 GB/s and 56 GB/s).
Then their internal storage is nearly the same (PCIe 4.0 825 GB with PS5 and 1 TB/512 GB with XBox), but the additonal storage is very different, where you can on the PS5 simple add a up to 8TB 2280 SSD, with the XBox you need a specific XBox storage card (only up to 2 TB) and it simple cost more than two times (275 for XBox special, 113 for 2280 both Seagate, both 2 TB size).

So, I don't really see why the XBox should be better overall than the PS5. The X model is, on paper, a little faster than the PS5, yet the S is a lot slower than the X or a PS5 and thus making the fast X slower than its needs, cause of the slow S.
