Flashback: the LG G8 lost the plot

15 October 2023
A huge notch? A separate fingerprint reader on the back? No telephoto lens? That was not a good look for a flagship in 2019.

LG phones are still amongst the best, though the velvet was just a upper mid ranger but, all other past Flagships were Lit, I pray they shock the world and come back Strong

I had G7 for about 3 years, easily best phone I ever had. I'm sad I sold it.

You can compare it to Samsung phone, only if Samsung is using snapdragon chipset. Otherwise is LG all day.

I switched to S20FE after G7 and it was such a downgrade. S20FE overheated, it shut down on me, camera was the worst, and it stuttered.

G7 has an outstanding camera, ultra wide is actually ultrawide not like s20fe garbage. Never overheated, I could do 4k recording for at least 10 minutes. Colors between the 2 camera where very similar. No stuttering or restarting ever.

I can hardly believe that S10 was even close to the quality of that LG.

Osiris, 17 Oct 2023Yeah, way ahead in bootloop qualityIt's honestly ridiculous how funny you are making yourself to be. Its always easier to just read the titles of articles and comments of other ignorant people then to research by yourself, right? You are all the same. If you had even given a few tens of minutes of your time for research, you would have known that LG solved bootloops entirely with LG G5 and LG V20 (while number of cases was way lower with them than with G4 and V10). Also you would have found out that Samsung is also famous for still having bootloops, just nobody talks about it. And i know that from experience since i repair phones.

PanRT, 15 Oct 2023Branding aside, LG was also falling behind the competition ... moreYou are actually wrong. LG G8's notch ia packed with proximity sensor, depth sensor, infrared camera, infrared emitter and normal camera. It actually need room for those.

I had the first Optimus phone way back.. the name is awkward, thats why it never succeeded.

Osiris, 17 Oct 2023Yeah, way ahead in bootloop qualityOld information. Bootloop existed in G5 or before that. I myself own G8x, no bootloop.

One more thing was bothering me,
How come we completed an article on G8X without mentioning dual screen and QuadDAC and audio quality?

I think its a biased article.

I still use my LG V 60 ThinQ since it's launch, and I have zero complaints!
                      Good battery
                      Micro SD
                      3.5 mm jack
Hi-Fi Quad DAC, unmatched by others
                      5G
                      ...
It's a pity that LG is not making phones anymore, they were decently priced.
                      ...
The same features on a phone are incorporated by Sony, but at a huge price.

0odle-noodle, 16 Oct 2023LG Mobile made some of the best smartphones for their time,... more^ And this is the only negative opinion, that's any valid. I fully respect this because its the truth.

People bashing LG here over some 2005 moisture resistance experience, are you literally living in the past? The people who owned the V40 or G8x or the recent phones are appreciating, this only shows that like any other company, LG too improved over time.

And forget GSMArena's opinion, they're the ones who say that any phone can give splendid audio quality if you can match the impedance, and almost all of them are best, and you can't detect any difference without lab equipment. Such unchallenged misinformation.

                          Let actual owners talk.

P.S. you can buy a refurbished LG G8 for around $130 now on Aliexpress. Would highly recommend it.

Had one for several years - liked it very much.
                              Best sound for wired headphones.
                              SD card.
                              Perfect size.
                              Good, simple, intuitive UI
The feature where you could set it to automatically mute your phone based on gps position.
                              RIP LG.

Lol, okay I have to admit the ThinQ name was pretty cringe, but as bad as LG's marketing and design team is, their phones were made with good intentions, and that's what matters :)

They were the only company that actually cared about giving consumers everything we wanted, and weren't ashamed about trying out new experimental features.

I had 2 LG phones back in the 2000-2010 era.
One of them a flagship died because I had it in my pocket and sweated. That's right it died from moisture in my pocket on a sunny day.
Another budget phone was nice for its small size...spilled coffee on the table one day, the phone got splashed and never worked again.
LG didn't know how to design phones for everyday use. The Samsung, even without advetised moisture resistance never did this.
Went to Samsung and Motorola and never considered an LG phone again. I'm sure this happened to enough people that they just couldn't sell a phone that wouldn't last 3 months.
                                  RIP and good riddance.
Of course many "Goldstar/LG" products have the same reputation . Read the reviews before you buy!

LG Mobile made some of the best smartphones for their time, its such a shame that they went out of buisness. Too many smartphones and not enough marketing is what eventually led to their demise. RIP LG Mobile

In those days Lgs g7 and g8 was ahead of samsung in terms of hardware and software but lost to PR campaigns.
