Majority of Xiaomi users in India and Africa don't have access to the unlimited bandwidth that many developed countries have, so yes this could be either a region locked ROM or just a feature needed by the vast majority of Xiaomi users.

Dedicated square for mobile data instead of Bluetooth is pure stupidity.
It's more useful and logical to have your Bluetooth connected device to be displayed on this squared shortcut rather than a small toggle.

I agree, but people still do because of it.

"Where exactly is Samsung the only one available?"

Europe, or at least Hungary for sure. While it's not the only one, at the really low-end, it doesn't really have competition, especially not when it comes to carriers, which is where most people get their phones here, and almost all of them get a Samsung. Altough to be fair, I've never seen system ads on Samsung phones, so that might be a regional thing, but that just makes it even more disgusting, as it clearly shows that Samsung doesn't need those ads to sell said phones on such low prices, they just might as well collect more money through ads wherever they can get away with it.

DarlingYext, 19 Oct 2023"They can still buy alternatives. There are other bran... moreWhere exactly is Samsung the only one available? That sounds wildly made up. Even in the continent of Africa, which so many think is in a much worse state than it actually is, do they have several home brands, same in India and dozens, if not more in China and several other countries - including in the Philippines they have several own brands.

Yes, some of which off phones on a old version of android - not necessarily the most recent, and nor are some of them likely to get android updates in the same manner (or at all) as a similarly priced budget Samsung - because the budget Samsung has an alternate income for the device paying for said support and possibly even better hardware at the same price point. So when faced with the option of a $150 Samsung with better screen and camera than a $150 Cherry mobile, as well as better software support, many will opt for the Samsung. The only reason the Samsung cost $150 and not $200-250 is the ads, at least in some regions. In other regions it may be ad free, but at a higher price. Same as some Xiaomi devices in some regions.

"Most recognizable" is just marketing working, and not a valid reason to opt for a device.
People either paying more for brand A vs. brand B due to marketing, or opt for something from brand A vs. brand B at the same price point, despite objective disadvantages, have only themselves to blame.

Buying into marketing is a choice. Paying for for seeing a brand used/worn in sponsored posts by celebs/influencers in social media, which is just targeted marketing, is foolish. And many people are foolish in that sense. We should take responsibility for this and not blame the companies using said marketing channels. I, for one, am not in instagram. Why? It's just loaded with ads. Regardless if it is a ad spot or a post by a celebrity. It's all just ads and the "other" posts of your friends also show up on facebook.

DarlingYext, 19 Oct 2023"Nobody is forcing anyone to buy any phone." T... moreYeah but you pay for the ads. If you don't want ads but a cheap phone then pay a flip phone or a worse phone because they can't give you an ad free, OLED 120hrz display and 5000mph battery phone for 250$. You can also always disable ads in settings or jailbreak the phone to forcefully disable them if there is no option in settings.

Unfortunatelly no, not everywhere. Samsung is the most accessible and most recognizable, so they are the only ones that can get away with it. Disgusting and sad.

If people stopped buying ad-supported Samsung devices, then Samsung would change. However as long as people buy them, they will continue and keep trying to find the upper limit for ad tolerance.

That's of course true, but technically speaking not really. Not everyone has the choice to buy anything other than a cheap Samsung, they may not have enough money and/or any other options at such low prices. System ads are unacceptable, no matter the price or brand.

Just like budget laptops, there is immense competition and just like budget laptops come pre-loaded with bloat/ads, as does budget phones. It's to get to a price the buyer can tolerate. Very simple.
