I am keeping my Pixel 7 Pro. This is the first Android phone I have kept for over a year and it just works. It gets great support, the battery life is good and the Google Assistant integration is great. It's fast enough so that I don't have to think about it. The camera produces the best-balanced images of any Android I have had, which is probably the most important feature of a phone for me. With the Pixel 7 Pro, the itch to upgrade is kind of gone, and so far there is nothing on the horizon that would make me want to scratch it. Google finally nailed it.

Lots of things are a show stopper for me and I'm returning the Pixel 8 Pro, keeping the Pixel 7 Pro until I find something worth replacing it with.
        1. I talked tons of Photo Sphere photos and can't possibly understand the reasons for removing completely the feature from Pixel 8 Pro while the same camera app and Android 14 can still take those on the Pixel 7 Pro
        2. I invested in WiFi7 mesh only to discover that the Pixel 8 Pro doesn't support 320Mhz. Even without it, the Pixel 7 Pro consistently gets 1.5Gbps up and down while the Pixel 8 Pro struggles around 800Kbps down and 500Kbps up
        3. So much noise about AI wallpaper but there are super limited to changing a couple of the prompt words and that's all. You can generate any image you can think of on all the other AI platforms and use it as a wallpaper.

Note the license plate in the first comparison photo angle.
In the Pixel 8 Pro the text is less clear, appearing to have undergone postprocessing.

First off, the display has less pixels but the increase in battery performance is imperceptible. The Tensor 3 is nowhere near fast enough to justify the price increas nor is anything else about the Pixel 8 Pro. The price, in India, has gone up by 50% and the camera sensor is still poor, with patches with no detail all over. As the Pixel's processing is excellent and you say the optics are improved, it needs a new Sensor, new Tensor and a new battery with faster charging! And much more pixels on the display... Or I for one, will have no choice but to switch brands. C'mon Google!

TL;DR buy the one that's the most cheapest / has the best value.

The improvements to the 8pro would be interesting if the device had been launched at the same price as the 7pro. But with the increase of 200 euros they are insufficient, even taking into account the rise in prices in the general market. At that price, you should at least have the 3 tensioner made by TSMC to compensate for the increase. Or some additional camera software improvements like a more natural processing profile....

It could have been my third pixel but I will probably change brands this time.

None are worth what they are priced for. Look at how horrible the chipset performs. The only good thing it has is AI editing (which requires an internet connection lmfao)

Gsmarena, it is helpful, when you always enable top shot (live photo). This way one can see whether things were moving, so one can judge artifacts better. That's why I always enable it. It's like having some true raw files.

"Similarly, there's not all that much of an improvement in the 5x zoom shots in broad daylight (or whatever this gloomy weather was)."
The most interesting thing is the 10x and 15x zoom setting. I tested in a store that my Pixel 7 Pro outperforms the S23 Ultra at 360mm + Night Sight. The 7 Pro offers more megapixels at 240mm than the S23 Ultra. I also compared my 7 Pro with the 8 Pro in a store and at 360mm + Night Sight they were nearly identical, the raw files of the 8 Pro actually had more artifacts/strange noise than the 7 Pro.

I hope to see a Pixel phone in the future where the image quality at 360mm is significantly better than on my 7 Pro in Night Sight mode because my Panasonic Zs60 still offers noticeably more detail (and also more background blur) in the 720mm raw files.
