Anonymous, 14 Dec 2023on the contrary, chinese oems have to pay google to include gms.google isn't paying anyone to include gms. Chinese phones in china have their own stores preinstalled, Xiaomi has Xiaomi store, Oppo has Oppo store and so on. In the global version of the phone they don't include the stores cause google pays them to use the play store and not include their stores preinstalled, it's simple as that.

TechEnthusiast, 13 Dec 2023Wow! So Apple won when they don't even allow side load... moregoogle was found guilty of monopolistic behaviour, cause they payed their way out of the competition, they payed riot games who knows how much to not release their own android gaming store, and release games only on the playstore. Google also pays chinese phone makers to not put their own store on their phones, leading to to monopoly of the play store.

Google lost that case for 2 simple reason, unlike Apple who took a stand with a firm of not allowing any third party access to their payment platform. Google tried to have is both ways by taken the opposite stand of openness while doing everything behind the scene to oppose that openness. They do so by moving just about everything to google playstore and pay others to keep that door shut. The second mistake they made which ultimately doomed them is the fact they deleted a ton of files, emails that would be used against them in this case. The judge got so upset that he instructed the jury to assumed Google is guilty for any questions they have that could have been answered by those files/emails that Google deleted. Once the judge said that to the jury it was game over for Google.

Apple had no such issues, Apple took the stands of "we don't deal/negotiate with theorists." It's our platform, you don't like it then GTFO.

People say "vote with your wallet" and you call me childish for not bowing to BS mega corporations? They can kindly hike off. I never need ANY game so much that I'll go down with this exclusivity BS. Nope. Just no. The same way I have a stance against Ubisoft. I haven't bought or played any of their games for the last 15 years. And I'll continue to do so.

I agree 30% is way too much. But people here want These companies to provide things for free. They have to pay the people they employ you know

I'm confused, does Apple, Sony, Microsoft, and basically all gaming companies charge a 30% fee for having the game on their platform. I agree it may be too much for just providing access to their user base, but that certainly makes it an issue that is not limited to Google. I wonder how long it will be until all these other platforms face this same issue in the near future unless there is an appeal / reversal of the decision

In hindsight, it seems like it was a bit dumb for Apple and Google to go after Epic and Spotify. They could have just kept playing wackamole on small and medium sized enterprises and still have their walled gardens. Oh well, the world is better for the death grip being loosened, but there are still a lot of things that need to be corrected in iOS as far as I'm concerned.

Bug win as this now sets precedence as a xourt case against the just as long court battle against Apple!
