marclee37, 25 Dec 2023it seems possible that we may buy a asus-made 27, 28" ... moreAs of now, big sized OLED panels are ridiculously expensive only due to their limited production quantity, thus reducing market supply. Some production challenges stop them from manufacturing high output.

I read an article which said, inkjet printing technology will be applied to make OLED screens now, which will increase production amount, and after that you can observe a sharp decline in big screen OLED prices.

Do google it once, and if you have a plan to buy a big screen OLED device, whether TV or monitor, better wait for some time.

"Switching modes should cause the system to see the display as either 4K 240Hz or 1080p 480Hz and scale accordingly. It does seem then that the panel is artificially limited to 240Hz at 4K but it's not like you can actually access the full 480Hz at 4K using any current display standards."

I have a feeling that to achieve 480hz, the panel groups 4 adjacent pixels together in a square pattern and then alternates between them.

So it likely looks like one of these where 'o' is a lit pixel and 'x' is unlit:

    ox
    xo

    oo
    xx

    ox
    ox

sangerica, 24 Dec 2023If that 3840x2160@240hz panel runs in RGB-444 10 bits with ... moreWell it cant do true 240hz lol (dp 1.4 nor hdmi 2.1 support 240hz at 4k in any spec or using any cable which ive just personally checked, can do up to 10k at 120hz but thats its max accross all HFR displays with hdmi 2.1) so if you want 10 bit With certain colour calbiration and HDR at 240hz then no, it cannot do it (do 4k 60hz at 10 bit with HDR then yeah thats fine if its even a 10 bit panel).

With dp 1.4 and hdmi 2.1 its just a wasted product basically.

it seems possible that we may buy a asus-made 27, 28" OLED 4K 60hz+ monitor in 2025. finally. price may be higher in 2025? over USD600 for one?

been using 15.6" 1080 oled notebook just in this month 2023. its color rendering is so much better, same brilliant quality as seen on the small phone screen.

took so long for the desktop monitor to transition to the true black OLED tech.

If that 3840x2160@240hz panel runs in RGB-444 10 bits with HDR enable (aka all the HDMI 2.1 bells & whistles) , then I`m SOLD, but if not......well back to the drawing board.

This isn't new.. cats a lifetime ago and early lcd ALl had higher refresh rates the lower you went in resolution, and the high resolution you went to, the lower the refresh rate. Why is everyone acting like different refresh rates on one display is groundbreaking technology?? This is what happens when we forget the past and pretend there is no history.

What is the point of 32" monitors? For real work, it needs to be around 37 to 39" as as sweet spot.

The other monitor is 45" 3440x1440 - which is pointless dimentions. What if I want to watch a 4K movies?

Why are PC monitor, still lacking touchscreen?

Do they have multi-input HDMI input?
                                headphone jack?
Buttons - to the front of the monitor
HDMI arc - to support external sound bar
                                Spacial speakers?

Using a cheaper monitor if they go 4K120 and FHD240, and they price it cheaper... wouldn't it be great?

Super Android 22, 22 Dec 2023What a pointless monitor lol. Going to be stupidly pric... morewhy hold inovation, we are customer , and competition make customer win, so why not, if 240hz is new minimal standard, we can get 240hz on cheaper price and GPU produsen will created powerfull GPU for feed up 240hz, CUSTOMERS WIN

Mills, 22 Dec 2023Interesting concept but practical? Not sure. For monitors, ... moreYou're mostly correct, but only one problem exists:- 1440p and 1080p are not directly scalable, so it can't be the same panel without compromises...

4K is 4 times of 1080p, so in 1080p mode, four pixels show the same colour, thus they act as one pixel. So its scalable for any content you have.
They can use the same 4K panel while maintaining maximum possible sharpness.

Doing the same on 1440p panel will have to make sure you get 720p... And at a hardware/ panel level, I think there are no challenges requiring this mode.

After pricing is announced, I will see memes of dreams getting crushed, not on social media, right when I close my eyes.
Thing is, we're talking about 4K240 and FHD480 in one monitor, its a dream setup for almost anyone.

Its pricing's gonna go through the roof, we can be sure.
