You don't get the AeroActive Cooler X, but otherwise it's a great package.

They downgrade the battery to 5500 mAh, and no more front firing speakers.. This is the result of merging zenfone line with rog, which is a bad move IMO. I wouldn't buy this over redmagic now

i believe that now I would miss where they put the indicator when charged or cameras in the bezels like the Asus Rog phone 7. Although the Asus Rog phone 8/8 pro is power gaming beast they placed where it might not be interactive and disturbs some experiences like YouTube, and some other apps. But hey I just wanna see a difference that's it in the UI as well

My god... Punch hole. A big NO!

Should make the punch hole in the standard version, pro version should get rid of it.

You can join the telegram group for any rog phone and see it for yourself. I have rog 7 and I am regretting it already. Previously I had zenfone 9 and now it is only a brick lying around and customer care charges a lot to fix the phone.

jiyen235, 09 Jan 2024lol i agree mostly, it's not garbage just painfully me... morei think change to punch is a big miss. rog phones all before are only ones and sony, move front hole to blocked area. now put a big black eye in the middle, when video a video you see a big doit int middle of the video. ASUS cannot hide the front hole but they cannot do something about it? or create its own under display ?

I dont know they change front facing speaks. hope not.

I am buying this. It's a beast. It's more powerful than apples A17. It's a true gaming phone. Camera upgraded. Cooling system. 720hz touch. 165hz refresh. It's balanced for horizontal use. For gaming. It's better than any conventional handset out there. Gaming phones are superior to conventional flagships. Because all my phones are gaming phones. I only need to have two or at most fingers on the screen. So its far more comfortable. We really have the edge with gaming phones. I had a Red magic before my current Redmi K50G e sports edition with black shark cooler and official hurricane case. Pubg is a breeze. And it's a lot easier to come first place most of the time. I can tell most people have conventional handsets. Or budget ones. You can usually tell what kind of players we have on pubg. Because most of the time gaming phones just crush the competition. It's so much easier for us. All that tech gives us the edge. And those air triggers. Or in my case electromagnetic buttons are so good to use. I could never play any games without them.

Anonymous, 09 Jan 2024Lol I agreed with you, especially that last statement "... morelol i agree mostly, it's not garbage just painfully mediocre. The punch holes in a display aren't THAT bad but an uninterrupted display is still going to be far better for movie/tv show watching mostly, since they're immersive. I haven't felt any touch problems with it. And dongles aren't THAT bad, they do their work and after getting used to it it's easy to carry one, just plug it in the headphone jack and you're good to go.

But yeah this is just not it and your idea is fascinating, sounds very cool on paper. BTW did you ever feel the need to use the cooling fans? And what games do you play that made you get gaming phones instead of flagships.

Anonymous, 09 Jan 2024face it.... you never bought any rog phone and you will nev... moreI was VERY tempted to buy an ROG Phone 6 but only stopped because it had way too bad cameras for what it costed (was 100 dollars cheaper than an S22 U), considering that I just couldn't get it, additionally the phone's UI is barebones. I think Pixel's one looks cooler and OneUI is nice as well. The main draws for me were the speakers and the battery. I'm a sucker for great speakers especially on the go and large batteries are amazing ofc but the difference day by day between the flagships and ROG Phones were shrinking. Now what's separating them? The ROG Phone 8 has a punch hole like other flagships, they have similarly sized batteries to other flagships and the worst part is chinese phone makers have FASTER charging speeds. The speaker is the only tempting thing here but even that lead is slowly getting cut off by companies like Vivo and Xiaomi (X100 Pro and 13 Ultra have banger speakers).

Yes I did not buy this phone and yeah my opinion may not matter but this reminds me of LG and how they died out and how Samsung became too consumer-ish compared to their cool wacky phones. I just hope phones don't stop at 5000-5400 mah batteries and improve more instead of doing the dumb thing Asus did and make batteries smaller. ZTE is the only REAL gaming phone brand now, they don't have the best speakers but they're SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. RIP ROG Phone.

Anonymous, 09 Jan 202430w charger for Android is not practical agreed, they should've offered more. It's pretty dumb considering Asus was one of the leading brands at fast charging.

ROG before ROG 8 has 6000 MAh battery, probably the reason of cutting it down to 5,500 is the wireless charging capability since wireless charging distribute more heat at the back of a device.

jiyen235, 09 Jan 20245500 mah battery, what is this, 2018? Even then, 6000 mah w... moreLol I agreed with you, especially that last statement "Zenphone+ (Gaming Edition). There's too much competition in the mainstream market, ROG Phones are specials and they should stay that way. The only thing I bought the ROG Phone for is that for the uninterrupted screen with bezel, the 3.5mm audio jack, the front firing speakers, and the side plugs. Front firing speakers won't get interrupted when playing games, first person shooting especially it's pretty crucial. Then the 3.5 jack to prevent the audio delay, the side plug so I could play without trying hard to hold my phone while gaming and the uninterrupted screen to see and shoot the enemies while the bezel prevent my palm being mistaken as an input to the touchscreen. Proud owner of the 1st gen, 5s and now 7. The 8th Gen I would say it's a garbage brick. If they want to continue to produce a product that might appeal to the common users, while attract casual gamers, try naming the series still ROG but under one of their laptop line like Zephyrus, which targeted also for those casual laptop users that need their stock/finance works done in the office but also coming home to play some games with all of the Zephyrus line caveats. While the purist ROG would have essential ROG Phone to cater the existing ROG customers.
