TCL brings 7-strong 50 series of smartphones, including two with NxtPaper displays

09 January 2024
Five of those are for the US market, two of them have a NxtPaper display.

They gotta watch out for lawsuits by Toyota for naming the trims extremely similar to the trims found on Toyota cars.

TCL really redefines the whole concept of e-waste. Just make two or three of them, and it'd be good enough.

got tcl 30 xe 5g at T-Mobile here in the states as a throw away phone to hold me over but i must say for 150 bucks phone it was super smooth, i expect these to be no different especially given they will have 120hz vs 90hz of the 30 xe, couple that with a better chip, cameras, screen, etc and doing away with dated notches is good too, shame still has the chin though, but yeah for budget phones they are pretty damn solid to be honest

If one of them has an Amoled display and a decent Dimensity chip (7200 or 8020/8050), then I might consider buying one.

Very likely we will get 1 or 2 TCL phones in Canada. My bet it's the 50 XE 5G.and/or the 50 5G based on previous years. Still it's too bad how limited the Canadian cell phone market is given it's over saturated with Apple or Samsung.

Mahh, I have a kind of mixed feelings with TCL/Alcatel. I had good and very bad experiences with this brand. All were well build but software and screen quality wise it was most of the time bad. That's of course already a few years ago meaning that it might now be a lot better. I will get me a nextpaper unit somewhere in the near future, just out of curiosity. The reviews I saw till now aren't that good when it comes to the smartphone units, they are kind of good for the tablet department. In bright light it would nog be as good as intended making everything blurry apparently. I want to see that for my self.

can brands please stop adding meaningless combinations of letters to the names of their phones? it's confusing and annoying and doesn't serve any purpose other than to make as many models as possible without buyers actually knowing the difference between them.

                      Expect SoCs with A75/76 .
                      I do not doubt

Nice good and cheap unlike some other brands which for same price output much worse specced devices with no accesories in box.

What's next? 50 ZE? XXL? Man this lineup is big and confusing.

Out of all the phones launching this year, this'll definitely be 7 of them....

                              7-strong sales

Not sure why such a big line-up was necessary, but at least some of them look interesting, I'm hoping the most powerful one of them will come with a Dimensity 8020 at least!

The 50 LE seems completely unnecessary, while the 50 SE seems like it will just be a 40 NxtPaper, but without the NxtPaper technology.

7 new smartphones, but none worth writing home about?

                                    No chipset details?
