There's also a Fast Pair expansion to TVs, and casting to more apps and devices.

Samsung's Quick Share is btw also incompatible with Windows built in P2P so what I said is still a valid criticism. Plus Google's Nearby Share worked on all windows PCs while Samsung's Quick Share is still exclusive to Samsung laptops and Microsofts nameless P2P only works with windows devices. Google's Nearby Share is the only open multi-platform solution.

Peek speed does not matter if it cannot sustain performance.

You doing nothing but comparing theoretical speed market by O.E.M.s as far as comparing pointless wifi 6e( 6ghz banned in many major countries as reserved for telecom and military equipment) and wifi 7 to that of UFS written in marketing materials.

Let's compare IOPS of a leading midrange NVMe pcie gen 3 Samsung 970 Evo plus to that of expensive latest and greatest UFS 4.0:

      970 Evo plus: 550,000 IOPS
      UFS 4.0. : 68,000. IOPS

That midrange NVMe will start throttling after it ran out of 9gb cache to 400mbps ( from 3500mbps) while sipping more than 6w and reaching over 85c and you are telling me that UFS 4.0 is better than many modern ssd including iphone with that small IOPs capabilities?

Tell me what you are smoking .( We are not even talking about gen 4 and gen 5 drives.....)

Physics, maths and common sense does not approve of your comment.

          This is Windows' Nearby Share:

This is Microsoft's, and it's between Windows PCs only. It comes built into Windows 10 and up.

This next one is Google's version, which come built into Android and you can download an applet for Windows. This is different than the one above.

                    2) UFS 3.x already provides speeds faster than even Wi-Fi 7 can achieve (720,5 MB/s for 2x2; no phone uses more than 2x2). Wi-Fi 6E can only achieve half of that so even UFS 2.x is not the bottleneck in that case. Plus phones with Wi-Fi 7 generally have UFS 4 while those with 6/6E generally have UFS 3.x
                    3) UFS 3 is faster than iPhone NVME (from the same year) while UFS 4 beats newer NVME
                    4) storage should be faster nonetheless

Was Google really first? I remember samsung phones had fast wireless file transfer over wi-fi on the S2 already and I remember no one else had that, but I didn't know anyone with a google phone then...

To get NearbyShare Android to work with Windows, you need to download a free applet from Google. Clearly the similar name creates confusion, thus this is imo why Google is rebranding it to Quick Share, the name used by Samsung for their version (yes it's fragmented).

This will at least unify Android and Samsung's solution into the brand Quick Share. Hopefully this will reduce any confusion with Microsoft's one.

[deleted post]well how does it work?

The reason airdrop is faster than quick drop and nearby share in Android devices is because apple uses fast NVMe storage in their iphone compared to UFS( 2.2 in case of midrange) or worse eMMc.( Talking about experience of majority Android users not small number of UFS 4 users so don't quote me on that)

No matter how fast wifi 7 and USB port on phone is it will always be bottlenecked by speed of storage used.

I am not a iphone user(proud pixel 7 owner 🥲) but just take a look at external storage speed test on iphone 15 pro vs any high-end Android phone, Samsung t7 ssd is faster while transferring files to and from iphone 15 pro whereas performance is half on s24 ultra(5gbps USB c) or pixel 8 pro( even with 10gbps USB c).

                              Faster storage matters too.

Nearby Share is already available for all Windows PCs. If this change means that it wont work in a month I'm buying an iPhone and MacBook for the first time in my life!

Samsung's Quick Share is so easy to use, just like Wifi Direct before, contrary to Google's Nearby Share which is a mess needing Bluetooth and Wifi...so keeping Samsung solution was the best thing to do...

Even with Android phones from all the OEMs, from Samsung to the Chinese BBK and Xiaomi. Works perfectly. And yes, it works with Windows PC with Google's applet that you can download from Google. The fact that this is actually built-in to all Android phones without having to install 3rd party app, it baffles me how people still prefer to use other 3rd party apps.
