I hate this US ban on chinese phones like this and Huawei, Oppo etc.
I am American and would like to get a taste of Eastern software and hardware.

Xiaomi figured out the 14 Pro will be effectively treated as the middle child of the series, as users will either go for the smaller and affordable 14 Vanilla (which still has like 95% of the stuff from the Pro), or go all in with the 14 Ultra, especially for the bonkers optics.

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2024120mm ( FF equiv) Omnivision offers a 50 megapixel 19mm² sensor (0.612 micrometer pixel size) that the Xiaomi 13T Pro has used.
If Xiaomi uses this sensor instead of the previous 50 megapixel 24mm² sensor, then the focal length could be 0.612/0.7 x 19.4mm = 16.96mm and then the effective lens diameter would be only 6.78mm. Still very good, but not groundbreaking.

On such a small form factor the loss of resolution would be too great to the point that simply having a prime telephoto lens with a big sensor would produce comparable or even better results.
I'm wishing that other phone manufacturers would experiment with optical zoom design more, but right now my hope is pretty thin.

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2024Android 14 update fixed it. They fixed the focusing problem with a software update but the optics are still somewhat soft, the cost isn't the only reason why other manufacturers are reluctant to adopt an optical zoom design.

Who cares about it? The Pro takes months to release globally, let alone the Ultra, if ever. Xiaomi is fxxxxxx dead for me. To hell.

LG Innnotek showcased a 4-9X continuous zoom periscope camera in a single solution in 2022.
What happened to it?
It can easily replace the current fixed 3X and 5X solutions and save battery, space and make the module slightly slimmer.

IMX858 is a 1/2.51" sensor which is pretty weak in 2024 which was impressive in the Mi 13 Ultra, they have used 1/2" sensors before in 10 Ultra and 11 Ultra or they could use 1/1.56" like other manufacturers have done recently. We need great low light performance not denoised images that look like water-painting, that should be point of a device that costs a lot and is supposedly for true photography passionate people.

Well its not that case have tiny 50 Mpix on my Motorola edge 40 pro with another tiny 50 mpix support cameras.
But wouldnt mind to have Hubble telescope or James Webber telescope camera capabilities on back of my phone.
Thats bnot the case still using all my cameras if needed all is a photo tpe you going to make dependable.
But i am happy because having the only phone with a 60 Mpix front selfie camera.

FeedBack, 25 Jan 2024Xiaomi needs to work on its larger and flat display similar... moreThat is not going to happen in the ultra version, since they sell more in China where they do like curved panels, unlike us who almost all hate curved panels!! I have an op 9 pro and I already want to get rid of it and buy something that comes with a flat panel! And it's not like I have many options because I don't even want Samsung's Pixel 8 Pro either.
