For 8GB more RAM and 512GB more memory, they're asking for Rs. 25,000.
This is enough to get you 1 capable flagship from 3 years ago.

And how about the entire compromise that ROG 8 is, compared to other phones? and the insane pricing?

I had ROG 5S and 6D and both after a year of usage already had motherboard issues jeez. I switched now to RedMagic 9Pro, bro its super cool and battery efficient. And has very superb TV Gaming console mode via its Redmagic studio feature. It's more like you have a pocket Gaming set top box on your hands lol plus, being way, way cheaper and has a built-in cooling fan!

With that price I can buy two RM9Pros lol. RedMagic 9Pro is still the best gaming phone design and hardware wise. Software is easier to polish than a faulty hardware like Asus ROG phones have with weak motherboard. My ROG 5S and 6D just got a motherboard deadboot issue just within a year + of casual gaming use. Switching to RedMagic is the greatest decision I've made lol.

Yeah, there might be mistranslations but the newer RedMagic OS9 has few of those if I say almost none. Plus, having a superior projection-"TV Gaming Console Mode" and mapping features that ROG phones doesn't even have.

Anonymous, 26 Jan 2024By the comparison there between 12 and 8, I actually was me... moremy main gripe is that Oneplus is super conservative with this phone and for some reason, just like the Oneplus 11 the power consumption is super high during load, leading to low gaming battery life. Notebookcheck's power consumption test for the Oneplus 11 showed that Oneplus sucks more power for some reason and I think that's the culprit here as well. So Oneplus is usually conservative but also tends to suck more battery under load, just a weird bug that Oppo suffers from too but strangely enough not Realme GT5 Pro so it seems like a Oneplus and Oppo thing. Additionally the display is the same as the GT5 Pro but is 500 nits dimmer, that's some awfully conservative tuning by Oneplus! It's like being given a Mclaren but being allowed to drive at 30 mph. Oneplus you've spent so much on the hardware, just use it! Imagine if Oneplus drove the display like the Realme phone, had gaming battery like that phone and in the normal mode performed normally without showing those below 1k geekbench results. It'll go from an already amazing phone to a legendary phone I'd say.

Also, I agree with the gaming phone part, I truly wondered who the real "phone gamers" were, like most pro phone gamers just use Apple iPhones, at least from what I saw from some streams about PUBG Mobile. Maybe other places have different gamers idk. But anyways, mobile gaming has been properly done since last year, only proper cooling and long term load management is needed now. Redmagic 8S pro with the fan on is basically flawless and shows that the chips aren't the problem, their heat is.

Software experience is equally important alongside hardware specs

Well true, the ROG 7 was a better phone, Asus tried fixing what wasn't broke and they terribly messed up this time. Also I believe they should keep prices in check because only a noob will spend like $1400 on a gaming phone, experienced gamers will rather go for desktop or console setup

Anonymous, 26 Jan 2024I've owned several phones with QHD display. In fact th... moreI was speaking factually, the ROG phone 8 Pro has a class leading display and I too can see the difference between QHD and FHD on a phone but in day to day use it's so minute it doesn't matter, especially for video games and youtube videos, and videos in general because bitrate matters far more than resolution. Anyways, yeah as I said, you either choose more resolution (Apple and Google) or more refresh rate (Asus) and the end result is the same, super bright display with well calibrated colors. Oneplus might have well calibrated SRGB colors (and it should!) but the DCI-P3 colors will certainly not be quite color accurate.

And for the battery well, this phone is for someone who games more, with nearly 10 hours of gaming time. That's the only novelty apart from the banger display that this phone has.

Idk where you tried pulling in the Oneplus 12 from but it's disrespectful for that phone to be compared with this dumpster fire. We're talking about one of the greatest value phones Oneplus has ever produced and one of the greatest flagships ever, because this phone is 800 dollars and the S8+ costed 850 dollars back in the day for a 64 GB model!! Oneplus 11 was "fine" but this is not just a good but rather a GREAT phone. Battery life is BETTER than the ROG phone for web browsing, talk time AND video playback. Cameras are just *chef's kiss*, so yeah, the Oneplus 12 is a VERY solid phone and a phone of the year contender right alongside the Vivo X100 Pro and the IQOO 12. BBK is making phones great again and I'm all for it. Anyways, I was just trying to state that the Asus's display is goated level, I didn't mention battery cus frankly apart from gaming it's dogsh*t, the ROG phone 7 was better!! GSM did Oneplus dirty with the 4.3 rating and was either paid by Asus or are biased towards Asus for that ludicrous 4.6 rating.

jiyen235, 26 Jan 2024brightness, refresh rate and color accuracy. How is it not ... moreI've owned several phones with QHD display. In fact the one I'm typing with has it as well. I can tell the difference so that's why for me at least, resolution matters too, the OnePlus is better there because the resolution is more than FHD and since it's a flagship, the colours and brightness will be one of the best in class. The ROG may have a higher refresh rate, but beyond a point, its mostly not much of a deal whether it's 144 hz or 165 hz it doesn't really matter as long as it's 120 because rn, most apps and games, UI are tuned for 120 hz and that saves power as well compared to 165 which is just an overkill. I'd say it's a matter of personal preferences, I prefer more resolution compared to refresh rate so the OnePlus display is actually better for me with its ltpo 4.0 tech which will also help save power in AOD mode

Coming to battery, the OnePlus has same sized battery as the ROG so can't say the ROG does better there, it tho used to have an edge with earlier models having a 6000 cell but that's not the case any more. Apart from that, both phones have almost same specs (storage, RAM, screen size, chipset, a notch display etc) since both are flagship phones. The only big differences are price and extra keys for gaming, and I won't pay like $300 extra for that feature. So yea, the OnePlus is overall a much better phone. Also do consider that the ROG only does good in one area while OnePlus aces at everything from camera to software support. Also, my city even has a big OnePlus store where they sell and repair all phones plus, sell all their other products so that indicates proper after sales presence as well. The OnePlus is an obvious winner here and by far

Anonymous, 26 Jan 2024You have your facts all wrong. ROG display isn't class... morebrightness, refresh rate and color accuracy. How is it not class leading? The bezels are super thin as well. Only argument I can see is the resolution and yeah FHD is kinda mid but you gotta choose between resolution and refresh rate it seems. Anyways, as a person who's used QHD phones since the S7 Edge, I can tell the difference but I truly don't care much. Brightness and color accuracy are far more important to me especially DCI-P3 cus i like watching HDR videos and Samsung and others have inaccurate DCI-P3 colors. Refresh rate is something I don't care about much after 120 hz and till 240 hz because the latency/response times aren't THAT different from 120 hz until we hit 240 hz, but that's just me. Basing all of this based on GSM's testing, by their testing it seems that only Apple can match the ROG Phone's display. Other phones advertise 4500 nits but only in Vivid mode with 1% APL in HDR videos, that's one hell of a niche scenario. Although anything above 1200-1400 nits is basically perfect for anyone I'd say.

Notebookcheck's tests show that both Google and Apple have incredible brightness for smaller APLs as well so that's awesome too. Xiaomi, Vivo and Samsung have similar small APL brightness as well so in the end it doesn't matter but I just thought that from GSM's testing it seems that the ROG Phone 8 has a class leading display. Samsung sticks to 8 bit so they are out by default. Google and Apple are the only ones worth considering as Asus's competitors due to their thin bezels and I'd say it's a toss up. Both have great displays and great calibration. So I'd say the Asus has a class leading display but so do the 15 Pro Max and the Pixel 8 Pro, in the same category and rank I'd say.

S24 ultra looks much better option. Even though it will come with 12gb/512 GB at the price of 24gb/ 1 TB , won't come with any charger and cooler.

Other than that it's nothing special, speakers are good but not as good as last year. So I agree, the Oneplus 12 is a killer phone but honestly it's not just the ROG Phone's fault the Oneplus 12 kills nearly all phones at its price globally.

It comes with much better software support and after sales services. The OnePlus also comes with a lot of other offers like exchange bonus and bank discounts
And of course the 4th generation Hasselblad camera and improved cooling, it's no brainer to pick OnePlus over ROG phone

Maybe if the ROG 8 was priced fairly, like $750 then would've been appropriate but I guess they want an extra $400 for those 2 shoulder keys on the side
