For the new HMD phones, are we going to get a new section for them or will they come under the Nokia section? Or will the Nokia section be renamed to HMD?

Anonymous, 05 Feb 2024Worst phone I had , constantly freezing.I missed the part where thats my problem

Nokia cannot compete nowadays against the Chinese firms. In early days yes. HMD Global did not help the brand by producing poor phones that nobody wanted to buy. HMD Global had a massive name and if they produced something to compete with Huawei then great

I must admit liked their Windows Phones despite developers refusing to release official apps for it.

Minu, 04 Feb 2024Nobody likes to work with them because they don't care... moreI believe is that nobody wants to pay to nokia .. maybe they asking too much .. Hence so many blocking for chinese brands.. apple uses qualcom 5g not nokias.. But apple had to pay 1.7 billion to nokia in 2017
According to Nokia, it’s been a longstanding infringement as Apple has allegedly relied on some of Nokia’s patents since the iPhone 3GS. Those patents are related to software, video coding, chipsets, display, UI and antenna.
Pretty much nokia has made everything what relates to mobile communication device..

Nokia announced that it has reached an agreement with Samsung on the 5G patent license agreement. The agreement covers Nokia's fundamental inventions in 5G and other technologies. Samsung will pay royalties to Nokia for a multi-year period starting Jan. 1, 2023, since the previous agreement expired at the end of 2022

I'm not saying that Oppo is right, but Nokia itself is the problem. What made Nokia's OZO technology exclusive to the Zenfone 8 series, but not later devices? It's their poor licensing procedure.

Have you seen Nokia promoting any of their licensed products? Apart from using Nokia mobile's phones for advertising material, they haven't invested on them, unlike what seems to have been done within Bullitt and Gigaset (Siemens). What about the laptops by Pegatron and audio accessories from RichGo? They're just lazily talked about in the MyNokia Instagram page and nothing else.

Nokia N73 is the best Nokia phone I've used.
Super Loud Speakers,Great Camera with great low light photography, Awesome Video Recording capabilities, Large display.
The only negative thin was that annoying joystick.

HMD, expect to experience serious losses by going alone

OTTO, 31 Jan 2024Employment Stephen Elop was biggest mistake, then selecting... moreIdeally Microsoft would've taken iPhone more seriously. They would've bought HTC and Blackberry, whilst closely partnered with the likes of Lenovo, ASUS, Toshiba, HP, Dell, etc etc. We would've had great hardware and software form them, from an early age.

As for Nokia, they would've cancelled Intel. That was a Trojan horse as well. They would've dived deep into open-source to partner with Debian, RedHat, Arch, to truly build out a "Better Maemo". Whilst making a great proprietary system built upon open-source, to partner with many firms from China. Think of alternative Xiaomi, BBK, TCL, ZTE, Huawei dominating the marketshare. Also established brands like Sony Ericsson, Alcatel, BenQ, Siemens, Sharp, etc etc.

Meanwhile, Google is left holding the bag. They don't get a lot of support, and end up buying Motorola. They do partner with Pantech, LG, and Samsung.

Apple does its own thing, but probably with more haste, and less success.

Overall, in this different universe, the industry is very different. The entry level is dominated by China and the open-source compatible software from Nokia and it's International Ecosystem. Android is quirky and fun, but it's not winning any categories. Apple still owns the crown for luxury sales. And for the business or corporate people, they seem to be very well served by Windows. Things have evolved a bit differently too. Processor and Camera have not been as fast improving, but monopolies and software-locks have not proliferated. So things evolved moreso in the way of which ecosystem has lower costs to developers and consumers, and which ones have the must-have Game or App, at least with a 12-Month exclusivity contracts. There is also the existence of Post-PC computing, where Apple likes to sell you several devices, the likes of Linux have turned the Nokia Phones into the "Central Brain" and allowing it to get docked into Controllers, Laptops, or Desk Docks to enable Linux use outside of a Phone. Microsoft has then followed suit with their own proprietary solution, much to the demise of Intel. AMD has flourished by including hybrid computing, combining their x86 technology with battery-friendly ARM technology in such devices. Android is doing okay, but is leaving Google to rethink their strategy.

What I can tell you is there is currently 9 HMD handsets ready to launch and there will not be anymore Nokia branded smartphones, only Nokia branded featurephones.

I'm on my third Nokia, a XR21. It's supposed to be dust proof and robust. Given I work in a desert I thought it would be perfect. Sadly I need to turn off home wifi to access apps in the work profile, and LinkedIn and Google News in the person profile.
Whatever is going to happen needs to be better than what it is now. For the record my 8 still runs like a charm, albeit slowly, but looks a bit shabby.

I had to buy my parents two Nokia C32s each. There hasn't been any issue with lagging or apps not responding.
The only time GBoard froze was typing comments on YouTube, but that's a YouTube app-exclusive glitch.
Chrome froze, only with 100+ tabs open on each.
Basic games work completely fine, but I don't recommend playing very heavy games, given its price. Free fire, Clash of clans are playable, but not my cup of tea.
Battery life is surprisingly good, as if it got a 7000mAh+ battery.
Virtual RAM is disabled on both, because it strains the Samsung UFS 2.1 storage chip inside.
WhatsApp works well, no lags whatsoever. The WhatsApp call UI doesn't work occasionally when the phone is locked, but not all the time as in Samsung phones.
The Gorilla glass back is a pleasant surprise, because not a single brand includes it, unless the product is US1000+.

I bought them each for US$90, and I'm not disappointed.
