Petri S, 01 Mar 2024Hi from Nokia 🇫🇮 Finland. Collaboration is over. Lisence to... moreDepends on how you see it. For instance, the Nokia-branded phones manufactured between 2010 and 2016 were plagued with many issues, that made most of them unusable, such as the feature phones having faulty microphones, bootloops on S30+ phones, flimsy battery covers and grainy cameras on Lumias, despite their advertised camera quality. I'm not saying that every phone manufactured during that time were faulty, instead they made me avoid Nokia-branded phones for that period so I had to stick with Samsung.

Ironically, the phones used in my family today are Android Nokias. They don't have those issues, plus they are far reliable compared to the other ODM counterparts from Xiaomi, Samsung, BBK etc in the low end segment. I'm off-put by the generic design and lack of many built-in ringtones and official software, but their user experience and software optimization is yet unmatched. That's comparable to the phones that were actually manufactured by the Nokia company before 2010, when it didn't have to go through those poor decisions that ended up liquifying the brand and its legacy completely.

While I prefer Motorola to Nokia due to their variety of options (and the occasionally better value for money), most of their phones were recalled for undisclosed reasons in our mobile market, which is unfortunate.

Lisence to use NOKIA brand name for HMD smartphones is ending NOKIA didn't want to continue. Only entry level feature phones will have Nokia name after this. HMD will be the name on smartphones in upcoming models in May 2024. I actually wish them success, why? Because this new thing will be honest. And maybe they can make many big changes and leave behind that boring generic design? HMD never was Nokia and their products never was The Real NOKIA.

DarlingYext, 01 Mar 2024Clearing out the old stock, I see.And for a good reason, because the South Asian mobile market outside India has consistently fluctuating prices for mobile phones (Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan etc). Retailers always make the US$ fluctuation, political sanctions, VAT increments and import taxes, their usual set of excuses for price hikes and poor pricing.

You'll be surprised that the Redmi 12, Galaxy A05, Oppo A18, Vivo Y16, Galaxy A04, Umidigi C1, the ancient Moto E7 (with the ancient eMMC, the usual G series breed of chipsets and in 4/64 configurations) is priced twice as the Nokia C32 in 4/128 configuration (US$175-210 vs US$90). That example is enough to prove how bizzare the low-mid end mobile market for South Asia is. And given that the importing companies are politician-owned businesses, they use the tax loophole to maximize their profits even further.

I would've poked fun at any brand for using 4GB RAM in this day and age, but given that the South Asian mobile market is a complete hellhole, I can't go too far to complain about company decisions for catering to a third world market.

Phone with just 4GB RAM in 2024. Are they serious? Are they still living in 2020?
6GB / 128GB and 8GB / 256GB should be minimum expected specifications for any Android smartphone now in 2024.

Better to watch what Motorola (Stock Android) phone does.

I don't undertand HMD! They liteally have one of the most recogniseable IP that is NOKIA brand name and yet they release literal e-waste. A lot of brands struggle to penetrate into flagship market due to poor/irrelevent brand IP like Xiaomi, Transsion, BBK etc.
If HMD releases a proper device which continues the legacy in terms of innovation likes of Nokia N8, Lumia 1020, N9 etc, and proper marketing, Nokia can make a come back.
Such a wasted potential by HMD.
