It will work with non-Samsung phones eventually, though.

The fact that samsung launches the Galaxy ring way ahead of apple, shows that Samsung has the patents more early than Apple.

A patent doesn't mean anything. Apple is the biggest patent troll on earth. They apply patents for existing products, for any idea anyone else has come up with, anything they have seen in a movie or read about in a book. Heck, Apple even claimed to have invented round corners of displays.
BTW: I wrote "Apple started serious work after ..." which means that they were at least playing around with it like any other smartphone manufacturer on earth. But this has not been “serious work”.

Why do the most innovative devices have to come with the most anti-consumer crap?

I am pretty sure that the ring will become the most wanted accessory from Samsung once released, And I can guarantee that Apple and others started serious work on the ring after Samsung teased it in January.
Another hit will be the Bot Fit to which none of the usual followers (Apple included) will have an answer any soon. If any, maybe one of the Chinese companies like Xiaomi, but even they will need some time.

Even among Samsung device owners, I don't see this ring selling well. Personally, I never wear rings and wouldn't buy this just to wear one. Prior to buying my Galaxy Watch, I at least wore a watch regularly, so it it was a logical choice. Ring? Not so much.

Makes sense. Why Samsung should waste money on integration with iOS on a niche 1st gen product. It's all about cost and profit and not what fanboys would want you to believe.

About time apple taste their own medicine.
