And yeah, this argument is pointless, I feel bad for arguing over something this minor it's atypical of me. I still stand by my point of you not understanding common lingo but you do you buddy. Sorry about the argument. Gotta get a grip

Thanks, that's exactly what I've been saying this entire time. Imagine talking about the way "most people" think while referring to what "YouTubers" say as the basis of your argument, and accusing other people of being "riled up" when you're the one who was making a confusing statement. I'm out, I don't want to drag this stupid argument out any longer lol.

Nick Tegrataker, 18 Mar 2024I came back from a happy weekend and was greeted by this lo... moreAll that yapping and still nothing concrete, regurgitating weird perspectives and as I said, that's okay. You just seem to act like I'm making a mistake by saying portraits on phones doesn't refer to portrait mode. Idk if you are 12 or 70 but I guess that's why you don't have the basic sense shared by most people.

Anonymous, 18 Mar 2024I'm sorry dude but you sound complely insane for assum... moreJust like the other guy if you've never been with normal people or tech enthusiasts then it's okay but to act like I'm making baseless claims is ridiculous. I've seen hundreds of youtubers and most of them use portrait and portrait mode interchangably. I never said it's wrong to call them exclusively portrait and portrait mode shots but to act so riled up about something like this whilst being in the minority is plain idiotic

On the Chinese Bilibili website, there is a lot of review content. In terms of photography, the mi14ultra, s24ultra, and findx7ultra each have their own pros and cons. If one can accept having one less 3x camera, the X100Pro performs just as well and is much cheaper.

jiyen235, 15 Mar 2024Okay so you're saying, someone wants you to take a por... moreI came back from a happy weekend and was greeted by this long reply.. Wow.

"because they didn't specify and they're okay with it"
I don't switch to other camera modes on other people's phones unless they have told me to do so beforehand, as doing so would be just straight-up disrespectful. When people tell me to take a photo of them with their smartphones, I just do that, show the photos to those people and they are happy - That's how it has been for pretty much all the instances where I have had to photograph them. You're inserting your own imagination that they somehow want the background to be blurred all the time, well no you shouldn't because quite literally they never asked for it. If you insist, at least ask for permission every single time.

"why do you say phone instead of smartphone or specify what exact smartphone you're talking about?"
Me saying "Be more specific" to you was supposed to be a euphemism - I intended to say you're using the term "Portrait" *incorrectly* hence what you say makes no sense and will confuse people. You definitely made yourself appear far worse by doubling down on your mistake and attacking other people when I was trying to conclude the conversation by saying we just don't share the same view.

"Okay your "Portrait" shot example is horrible as well since portrait does mean a photo of people but how are portrait shots composed usually?"
*On a phone*, usually I use 24-35mm if I want to include the background or a group portrait, and around 50mm for medium to medium-shoulder shots. Note that, again, I've been talking about these specific situations where people ask me to photograph them with their phones (e.g. Parties or taking photos of my friends) and I use a wider variety of FoV for more formal portrait photography in which my dedicated camera is involved.

              "The background blur is quintessential"
Not true. There are some situations where you want to accentuate the subject by separating it completely from the background using shallow FoV, but in many cases people want the background to be shown clearly. For example, when they stand in front of a poster or letters drawn by neon signs, they don't want these stuff to be blurred. The same could be said when you're sightseeing with your friends and they want to stand in front of the landmarks, you won't blur the background because that would obfuscate where the photos were taken.

"act like portrait and portrait mode shots are completely independent and exclusive stuff on phones"
No, don't put words into my mouth please. *You* were using the generic term "Portraits" and the rather specific term "Portrait mode" interchangeably, so I called you out for it. Now you're imagining that I know nothing about photography because that clearly made you feel uncomfortable lol. I shoot photos of people in the most challenging situations with my mirrorless and sometimes semi-professionally (i.e. I get paid for it) so I know what I'm talking about, and I have no intention to change my stance on this - When people ask you to take a photo of them with their *phone*, you can't assume they are asking you to use portrait "mode".

Now please excuse me as I have hundreds of more meaningful stuff to do in my life than explaining everything to you.. Writing this comment felt like the biggest waste of my life in the past couple of years and I don't want to repeat it ever again lol.

jiyen235, 15 Mar 2024Okay so you're saying, someone wants you to take a por... moreI'm sorry dude but you sound complely insane for assuming that's what people want from you when they ask you to take a photo of them. Never even once in real life I have seen anyone referring to portrait mode as, simply, 'portraits'. Portrait means photos of people, and whether the background is defocused enough to emphasize the subject is completely optional. This is why the vast majority of portrait photos taken by a phone that you see on Instagram is NOT shot with portrait mode. Either people intentionally want the background to be in focus or they straight up do not acknowledge that such a mode exists in the first place.

Making a questionble assumption then forcing other people to think about stuff in the same way as you do does not make you look cool or sensible. Gosh I still cannot believe what I just read, I wish you were joking.

I cannot wait for the xiaomi 14 Ultra's review completely as soon as possible..

When the phone was announced for "pre-orders" the grip was free and their watch was added for free as well, but could you anywhere find this as a real living genuine offer? I was unsucessful. I know from using the grip with a Nokia 1020 just how very useful a grip on a phone is, though I do hope it syncs with all of the lenses for stills and video rather better than the Nokia model's did...
That said, after losing out on that offer I got to thinking, and again came up against the likely lack of panorama options with any lens other than the main camera's.. Nobody can manage to correct so wide an ultrawide for its inherent distortion AND process fast enough and well enough from a quad-bayer sensor (another annoying disadvantage) to be able to allow owners to make ultrawide sweep panoramas with their ultrawide lens.
I do not think this has happened since the LG 7 series phones that use a 16mm f1.9 lens on a 16MP sensor from 2018 : not even the Huawei Mate 20 Pro with its 20MP 16mm lens can cope with sweep panoramas in quad-bayer jpeg, and it appears manufacturers have put aside even that possibility for us whilst ensuring we can take basic stills with 3 camera lenses, which is fair enough.

You disable the flashlight by double pressing the power button.
And again you have to enable that on settings .

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2024Camera kit is nice, but €200 is very over priced for a fanc... moreThe camera kit has a extra battery in the holder with shutter buttons which is not using BT unlike other camera phone adapters thereby further increasing battery life. The shutter buttons are connect via USB not BT to the phone.

So none of the review care to mentioned the phone is running on legacy optical fingerprint scanner that shows a bright white light underneath. Or Mi video that output audio latency in video. Or the terrible 24bit audio processing by Harman Kardon. Thus, Hyperos riddle with bugs and latency issues. E.g turning on your flashlight plus locking your phone via power button will turn off the flashlight in a few seconds time.

Can't wait to see gsmarena's review on that one.
First camera comparisons between the Xiaomi 14 ultra and other camera phone favorites such as the iPhone 15 pro Max, or the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, are already out on YouTube, and honestly, the Xiaomi does have a hard time so far.

Let's gooooooo. Now the reviewer gets to use this phone for 2 months for his personal recreation and flex, ahem, I mean for testing purposes and accuracy, like he did with the Find X7 Ultra, and then releases the review when literally 8 total viewers will read it, it's gonna be so lit 🔥🥵

Looking forward to see the improvement from last year's 13 Ultra.

Like the man said, the Nokia 1020 Xiaomi Edition!
I expect that for full-resolution RAW images that you can edit in DXO, that the 38MP of real resolution the old Microsoft non quad bayer sensor has will still outresolve the Xiaomi’s main cam, and it has RDS FM stereo radio with a real headphone jack (Music whilst you work). It dioes not have the other lenses, but 12.5 MP hardly compares to 38 MP. The Nokia has 4x the pixels and double the actual resolution of the Xiaomi….
