Sony Xperia 1 VI might give up on the 4K display and tall aspect ratio

The overall design will still be clearly identifiable.

it's very sad that sony has changed the resolution from full 4k (3840x2160) to a subset of that (3840x1644) in their flagships. they should have left the 2160 which can play 1644 as is, without scaling. the 21:9 versions had downcast the fabulous full 4k in older xz premium devices.
sony always makes a great phone, then several generations of lousy ones (which include the xperia 1.)
you interact with a screen! the higher the resolution - the clearer and sharper image you see. sony did not climb back up to where it used to be, regarding the phone screen resolution, since 2018.
just sad. if by may and mark vi they would not go back to full 2160, i would have to ditch sony in the coming months, when my xperia xz premium will be just too old.
:(

Nope. You can not called 4 people worldwide as markets. Its a really small group of people🤣

It is more profitable for Sony to be an official reseller of iPhone/Samsung than to make its own phone 🤣

Why? Because I don't want another loss like LG, that's why. Sony is a great player, and aspect ratio and resolution aren't the 2 things they need to change, it's their software and it's update support that are in need of a massive overhaul. I'm not saying there is a problem with their close to stock Android UI, because there isn't, but it's full of bugs, and that's what needs a changing, plus longer update support, at least 4 years.

"And do you think MOST need the 21:9 aspect ratio that Sony is deviating from?"

No, and most people aren't buying Sony phones, they are as niche as possible, but that is exactly why they still have some market at least. Become generic, and get eaten by the cheaper and better value chinese phones, plus Samsung. So, I support them staying the way they are, except when it comes to their software.

DarlingYext, 17 Mar 2024Yes, there are plenty of other phones to buy if I want some... moreSo you want Sony to stick to their 21:9 aspect ratio because you can always choose another phone, but if they don't stick to their own aspect ratio, they will fail? That's quite an ironic way to put it. But if Sony were standing out with their aspect ratio and being successful with it, why are they deviating from it? And you said it yourself, they are still standing out with their SD card slot and headphone jack. And who knows, maybe they will be more successful with the 19.5:9 AR, at least in my book, because I know why it's better. Do you?

Sont phones are very expensive and also little known compared to their Apple and Samsung rivals. In that case, the people who put in the work to actually buy one will expect at least 5 years of software amd security updates minimum as smartphones too, owing thanks to their high price tags, have become an investment these days.

No one in their right mind would pay what Sony asks for their flagships (even with the rare and excellent micro SD support and headphone jack) and be okay with their phone getting outdated in just 2 years (software and SECURITY updates wise).

Imho, even a simple thing as extending software amd security support to at least 5 years will improve their fortunes more than anything else.

It's also a pity that they're dropping the 4k display just as VR seems to be getting popular again...

Hopefully Xperia 10 vi got same size 6.5" with decent snapdragon 7+ gen 2 will be great with price range 500usd.

The aspect ratio was ridiculous, no one is watching cinema movies on their phone and most short content is 16:9 so I welcome a more normal shape. It’s also easier to hold and pocket and makes the screen feel bigger for the same inches.

However I don’t agree with the dropping 4K, its the best unique sales feature. I certainly notice pixels on low res screens and have a 4K laptop, 5K monitor, 8K TV. The only reason left to buy an Xperia would be the SD slot!
