Sony allegedly halts PS VR2 production to clear up existing inventory

18 March 2024
It's apparently got a huge stockpile since not a lot of people are buying the headset.

Anonymous, 19 Mar 2024Lmao. That guy is one of the reasons why Pixel 7a cost more... moreCould it be that Marquez is so obsessed with "wireless" charging because he is also a car lover? For a normal person at their desktop, attaching the phone's back to the round magnet at the end of a WIRE has no advantage over just plugging in that USB-C cable into the phone. But if you are in a car, putting the phone on a "wireless" charging stand might be more convenient than having that cable dangle around the cabin. It's not like you get to hold the phone while driving anyway.

If you don't know anything else about Sony (or Japanese corporate culture as a whole) at least know this that Japanese brands would rather shut down their shop than change their corporate policy to fit the demands of the ever changing world.

Case in point being, Sony would rather shut down the entire VR HMD lineup than open the devices up for un-gated usage on Xbox, PC or other non-proprietary devices. I will eat a hat (shaped pie) if Sony eat crow and do the smart thing of not restricting access.

Also, it doesn't help Sony one bit that there's barely anything on the PS what warrants this VR HMD which in most cases (depending on taxes and retailer greed) costs more than the consoles which they are supposed to be tethered to in the first place. The whole thing with Sony and VR is a head scratching event that will be talked about many years after Sony-VR's demise (which all signs point to happening sooner rather than later).

Anonymous, 19 Mar 2024I hope Sony listen to MKBHD suggestion with that Porche ana... moreLmao. That guy is one of the reasons why Pixel 7a cost more than the 7 when it launched. All because of him complaining about stuff like wireless charging and 90hz when the 7a was supposed to be a budget one. And that 7 and 7 Pro exist already for those wanting more.

As said by another commenter, the 10 series exists. Your beloved influencer is just messing things up for the consumers.

I hope Sony develops and releases an INDEPENDENT VR Headset where you can download games and watch movies on the go while not connected to a nearby playstation.

Also allows users to watch A content. And named the Headset. XPERIENCE.

The fact Marquez doesn't seem to know how to research very well (he completely failed to mention S24 comes with Exynos, for example) doesn't mean Sony needs to ruin one of the only kinda small phones left (also, the Xperia 5 doesn't even have a 4k display, only the 1 does). I would definitely love to see Xperias regain their former glory (they have a 3.5mm jack and a microSD slot!), but, for example, the reason I bought a Zenfone and not an Xperia is very simple: Xperias aren't even sold in my country anymore.

That's why they're also talking about laptops from Huawei, Honor, and Infinix. (kinda surprised that they're never talking about Asus ZenBooks or ROG).

Leading 5 VI to more affordable hi spec class while 1 VI fully competes in hiend phones. Now with the runored 4K no more the price should be cheaper.

I won't really say that GSMArena is just a "mobile phone site". In most news and reviews they also talks about laptops, Steam Deck, Legion Go, YouTube, etc. So maybe now we can also considered GSMArena as a "gadget site".

The Sony of today is just running on fumes from its branding.
