I would expect a cheaper model with $300-400 less price but, I really wonder what could make a foldable form factor almost half the price even with fold5's camera setup.

This is more about competing with foldables from China where there was a 100%+ yoy growth. Despite outpacing them as you put it, the Open and Pixel have not helped push foldables mainstream. Sales were recently released and those foldables are not even on the map. They probably haven't sold 100k combined.

        An entry level model will help them get sales back on track this year. That's why are they doing this. If it weren't for foldables from China, there would be little to no growth.

The only R&D was for the Fold 1 and maybe the 2. They should have paid it off looong ago with these ridiculous prices and these entry-level cameras.

            Taking these off the Z Fold 6 FE is going to save a ton of money.

                The hinge structure, all R&D and tests.

                I highly doubt final cost of z fold 5 is below $1000.

                      I hope Flip 6 fe will come which would be around 599 dollars.

                        I really don't care much about camera's, so if they would use older camera's it's fine by me.
                        However, the cpu/memory performance should be good enough to have a smooth experience using the software. No delays.
                        Oh and the hinge/crease should see some improvement, at least at the level of the One Plus one.
                        Other than that I don't have many demands. Ok, I would love to see faster charging speeds, but it seems like Samsung will never go faster than 45W :|

                          This should also mean that the Z Fold 6 should finally have some competitive cameras for this segment. Hope the ISOCELL HP2SX makes its way so it can compete with the OV50H in the next Vivo X Fold 3 Pro.

                            But it will still be 500% more expensive than it costs to produce. Or more.

                                Nice. As long as features like Dex is maintained, this will be quite popular. I'm actually going to guess it will use Exynos 1480.

Remember, Samsung have been making these for half a decade now. They have access to cheaper manufacturing processes and with tens of millions sold by now, R&D costs are getting down towards that of a normal non-foldable.

                                    It is not unlikely they'll also release a cheaper Flip model.

                                      I think they're probably guessing the price Incorrectly. It may be more like 999.
