Far more money is being invested now in R&d into chip design and manufacture which will only speed up progress. It will still take a long time for companies in mainland China to get close to tsmc or even Samsung in terms of high end Chip manufacture but the progress is definitely being accelerated by the restrictions. Huawei rather than going away has actually doubled down on R&D expenditure into both chip design and manufacture

I've had a Huawei phone once and it was great!
Usa and their allies are spying on their own people, but not in China. Everywhere, but not there. Why? Ask China.
So.... Should we let Huawei spy on markets other then their own? According to most of people here yeah sure, because we don't give a sht whose spying on us right? We just want a stiffer competition and mega featur

The US seeing SMIC managing to make 5nm chips using existing technology and then proceeding to try to tighten the ban on SMIC is such an American thing to do.
"Wait that's not right, we tightened the ban on SMIC, why are they still making progress on their own when they shouldn't be???" The most clownish behaviour ever.
