These phones are competition for POCO and maybe Xiaomi Redmi. No one will pay for the brand itself. Sony loses in cameras to Huawei, Honor, iPhone, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo. Where does this price come from?
What is Sony missing, need to bo fix, upgrade:
- only get 2 years of OS updates vs 5/7 years of other companies
- Fingerprint issues
- Face detection
- Telephoto lens on the Xperia 5 series
- Front camera is junk
- Bring back the notification LED
- Quad-dac,
- Wacom stylus support,
- Dual apps
- Custom button
- Multiple audio sources to be played
- Sony's own Album app
- Exmor T dual layer sensor for all cameras, ultrawide and telephoto included
- Full Camera2 API and CameraX API support
- Digital zoom at least up to 30x
- Digital zoom on the front camera
- Built-in ND filter
Lower/more competitive pricing, Pre-orders like Google/Samsung (discounts, Trade in deals aka Samsung). Otherwise Sony will remain a curiosity only in Japan market and in 1-2 series it will disappear from the market like LG.

Factory price is higher than non-foldable androids.
Too many custom pieces, bought at low volume.

Percentually larger area of the screen will be utilized to show something useful. Super tall screens like previous Sonys are just a design gimmick to differentiate at any cost. 18:9 would be even better. Functionality over superficial form any day, thank you.

Ones of biggest disadvantage of Sony is major update policy, and overpriced, any new device cost more than any other new flagship. You can be a fan of Sony, but real price should be less then comes every time new device launch.

Strawhat, 26 Mar 2024I hope they revert to 1440p resolution with its flagship ra... moreHonestly, I've never understood this reasoning, some folks are ok with 1440 x 3120 panel but God forbit it's a 1644 x 3840. Resolution without covered panel area means nothing really.
S2xUltra phablet needs higher resolution to cover that huge panel area with a decent dpi. As a matter of fact it's S2xUltra that would benefit more from 1644p display than Xperia 1 since its dpi is currently at around 500 like iPhone Pro Max.
Before we get into that 300 dpi (which is a bare minimum for human eye to blend in dots and not a max threshold of human eye not distinguishing beyond that raster) general rule is the more the better especially in small to medium light emissive surfaces.
