Extend OS support is a way to improve resell value so that $1200 phone won't be less than $300 3 years later and Samsung still can make some revenue selling refurbished phones came from trade-in programs. It's a win-win situation that iPhone buyers enjoy, that their $699 iPhone 11 in 2019 is being valued at 350 after 5 years on used market, which is insane.

Glad thinkpad T series went back to non soldered rams and did not totally sink down to the level of these smartphone makers.

They should be addressing green line issues too. What’s the point of getting 7 years of updates if a green line shows up at around 2 years of a phone’s usage?

The value of the phones depends on the software support. You can still sale the phone after 5 years of purchase and the new second-hand user will be very happy about extra 2 years of support.
