Weekly poll: what do you think of the Motorola Edge 50 series?

21 April 2024
An excellent alternative to Samsung, OnePlus and others? Or perhaps good but overpriced?

"Oh naur it can't record 8k video" bish it can't resolve 33MP, what makes you think 8K would be anything but a storage eater for no reason?

No headphone jack and microSD hence no buy. Still looking for a suitable upgrade from G100, the last great midranger. G84 is too underpowered. Their policy is that if a phone is powerful enough then remove headphone jack and microSD card. Xperia 1/5 are too expensive and aren't midrangers. Xperia 10 is often underpowered, they'll probably put a 6 gen 1 this year which is too slow. Anytime we get a TSMC 7 series processor we lose headphone jack and microSD card.

Overpriced AF. £1000 for an 8sgen 3? Come on dude. Nobody will buy that.

The 40 Neo can shoot 4K video on the selfie camera, so what's wrong with Motorola?

Here's my opinions on all three of them:

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is good for the price (except for the versions that get the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1), but Motorola needs to have better camera software and processing before I'd ever even consider them. The curved screen is also a negative. Also, they need to give 4 OS updates instead of 2, otherwise I just can't get a Motorola because I would like to switch phones every 4 years.

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is like a Motorola version of the Samsung Galaxy S24 in terms of specs and price, but its Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is slower. Again, if the camera software was better, I'd take it over the Samsung, but the S24 isn't a good flagship phone anyway, it's the kind of thing a £500 mid-ranger should be (besides the chipset, that is). Also, once again, the curved screen is a negative. So, I'm just going to say that this isn't a great phone.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra has lots of issues with it. The 125W fast charging is amazing, the display is great, and the camera hardware itself is solid minus the annoyingly bad ultrawide, but it falls apart after that. Apart from the usual problems with the camera software that I keep mentioning, the main sensor seems to produce very dull colours, which is funny when all of their other phones have exactly the opposite problem. Hell, the telephoto produces slightly better colours than the main sensor, despite its sensor being a lot smaller. For that £1,000 price tag, the chipset shouldn't have been anything other than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or a MediaTek Dimensity 9300, but they put a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 instead? Why?!? The battery should've been 5,000mAh instead of 4,500mAh, and once again the curved screen is a problem, even if it's otherwise a great screen. So, once again, nope, not something I'd buy.

The Motrolling Edge 50 series will be a great value/deal once it goes on sale. Let's just hope by the time u score a deal. u don't end up with a device stuck on no mo supported OS Android update SINCE THEY HARDLY GOES ON SALE

Redmi Note Pro 4G was announced for €300.
But this Fusion for 400 is here called too overpriced.

                  You want 50 Fusion for €267? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

                    Expensive. Next...

The Fusion is somewhat reasonable. Others are overpriced.

Theres no such thing as a "bad" phone; only a badly priced one and these devices are a prime example.

Edge 50 Ultra uses 8s Gen 3 when for 1000 euros, you can get an iQOO 12 for less.

Edge 50 Pro is a midranger in a flagship price tag, This phone should've gotten 8 Gen 2 or 8s Gen 3 instead of Ultra.

As for the Fusion, why does Latin America get a worse chipset? For 7s Gen 2 at 400 euros, it's outpaced by E1480 (A55) and D7200 (2a)

Pro is a great option for the price in India but it's way to overpriced in Europe.

The Ultra is the least overpriced, but they all cost too much. The Fusion on the other hand, truly has absolutely nothing to justify its price.

Nope, it doesn't work that way. GSMARENA should start paying its registered users for giving you all this info you so require. Pay me 10 cents and i will take your poll , whatever that may be.

                                      All too expensive.

The Fusion can be replaced with the $100-$150 cheaper G Stylus 5G, for a somewhat worse SoC and worse charging speed.

The pro can be replaced with last year's Edge+ model, for $100 less you get a better chipset and largely the same specs elsewhere.

The ultra is asking the same price as the S24+, which feels like a joke. Exynos on the S24+ is better than this 8s Gen 3 chipset, the Galaxy S+ model seriously stepped up its game this year, and the OnePlus 12 significantly undercuts it.

Excellent devices, with only one issue, which is enough to make it hard for any of them to get on my wishlist: the prices.
