I hope there will be an ARM version of the Surface Go 4 too.

I have an MBA M1, and I hate the fact that it's fanless, because it keeps heating up after many time everytime I just render my 1080p video on it or just playing a game with emulator on it.
"There's a MBP for that!" well that WON'T fix the problem. It's a laptop, you must use it on a laptop way.

Anonymous, 23 Apr 2024That won't happen anytime soon or far. Too many infras... moreTrue. ARM might better in most usage, except when it comes to gaming or as a processor in PC. Yes, PC. There's a reason why PC is still more popular than Mac Pro/Mac Studio.

dude111, 23 Apr 2024Why do people think this has "efficiency cores"? ... moreIf all cores are alike, why do they have an asymmetrical cluster?

dude111, 23 Apr 2024Why do people think this has "efficiency cores"? ... moreUhm... It is because the article said that. I assume the author thinks the second cluster is using E cores and we, the readers, take that information to the discussion.

But now that you said it, yeah, it might be right to assume it is all P cores with two levels of clock rates.

Anonymous, 23 Apr 2024Yes, it will take some time but once they start stepping aw... moreThat would take a while. A looooong while. Enterprise-class software has been known as an old juggernaut with slow updates. And Windows Enterprise MUST adhere to that. And if Enterprise SKU supports x64, Professional SKU will.

Why do people think this has "efficiency cores"?
              It is not.

GB is just reporting the cluster configuration, 6P cores on cluster 1 and 4P cores on cluster 2 (for reference, the x elite has 8+4).
We don't even know if all run at the same base frequency or not.

kurotsuki, 23 Apr 2024Yep. As a software company, it would be safer for Microsoft... moreYes, it will take some time but once they start stepping away from emulating, it will be a golden age for business and consumers alike.

For now it seems two sku are on their way which makes sense they are just getting started

Anonymous, 23 Apr 2024That won't happen anytime soon or far. Too many infras... moreYep. As a software company, it would be safer for Microsoft to support both x64 and arm64. The challenge for Microsoft is that they must ease the developer's step when building their binary to support both architectures so users won't need emulation (like if devs release their binary in x64 and the user uses arm64). Promoting developers to release their apps to the Microsoft Store should help it.

Anyway... Releasing a lower SKU with 6P+4E cores should be a good step for Qualcomm. Although, IMO, it would be better if the configuration is 2+4+4 with two higher clocked P cores compared to flat 6 P cores. Or perhaps they did just that depending on the SKU? Since the last report, Snapdragon X Plus has two SKUs. I could be wrong about my assumption though.

If you want to do local AI tasks, 16GB of RAM is not enough without killing other tasks or greatly slowing down the machine. Hopefully there will be 32GB SKUs available.

I own a Surface pro 7+ it works just as good as the latest surface, I am willing to bet. I hold on to it bc it runs great for all my needs and the silence is puurrrfect. I don't have to worry about the fan breaking after wearing out etc.

Battery life isn't the best I get 6hrs before needing to charge.

But when ARM starts performing on par with Intel it will be good competition and lower prices for consumers.

all i care about..can they made it run dual os simultaneously ?windows and android?

maybe google and windows should merger

I think I would prefer a slim and light (less than 1kg) FANLESS Microsoft Surface laptop with 14.5-inch always-on OLED display and a Snapdragon X Plus chipset with integrated 5G, with oustanding battery life. it would be a very appealing product.

FANLESS are outstanding battery life (more than Apple MBA) are very important to be an Apple Macbook Air (MBA) competitor

It should have one USB-C port on each side, at the top to be able to power the laptop from any side. On the left side, it should be USB-C port, SIM tray and jack port in that order. On the right side, it should be USB-C port and micro-SD card reader.

For example, the Huawei Matebook X Pro 2024, is really a great laptop with a 14.2-inch OLED display and that is less than 1kg !!! Replace the screen by a 14.5-inch OLED always-on display, and put a fanless Snapdragon X plus with 5G processor, and it would already be nearly perfect.

So the X Elite is all about performance, while this X Plus will focus more on better battery life because of efficiency cores. It would be interesting to see performance difference between the two.

Glad to see the development of ARM on Windows. But I just hope that they won't ditch the Intel variant from the lineup.
More app compatibility >>> Better battery life

problably my next windows tab,,, at least that is what i think. the determining factor will be battery life of course
