They had Meng Wanzhou holed up in Canada for years trying to pin the alleged Iran deal on her without any success. They were then forced to let her go. The US just makes unfounded allegations to justify whatever they want to do. It's the American way.

Anonymous, 26 Apr 2024These wildly general American accusations with no particula... moreAnother grounds for the ban was Huawei and China's deal to Iran, which is not allowed by the US government at all, China admitted doing that and they were banned because of that reason. The US was spying on Huawei for a very long time hoping to find Huawei's weak spot in order to ban them or to remove the weight from Apple's Un innovative crap. If true and that China and Huawei was never forced to admit their deals with Iran then a sanction would be reasonable. But the US went farther ahead and accuse Huawei of stealing data and spying when in fact the US is the one that spied on Huawei. To top it off, Huawei was banned a month after it put Apple to second place which they deserved, so again what is the reason for the ban? Protectionism and fear and jealousy or just because China just violate rules. Probably all of them, but the main reason is that the US wants to removed Huawei's muscles that is strangling Apple in the neck for years (if apple tried to innovate and don't even try to be lazy then Huawei would not stand a chance). Huawei just gives the US the momentum if those Iran allegations were really true.

The US generals and politicians all encouraging people worldwide not to buy Huawei phones, but even they tried their best Huawei still beat apple to smartphone shipments in 2019, and as days progress people realized that both all phone brands can just give your data to the government they are serving.

The US government banned Huawei when they were expanding into the US market. US carriers were forced to cancel their carrier contracts with Huawei. And then Huawei was placed onto the US Entity List.

It wasn't like US citizens had a choice to buy Huawei but decided not to. Huawei could have sold very well in the US.

bulbulito.bayagbag, 25 Apr 2024They can sell well in China, but outside, I doubt. For the time being that doesn't matter to them as they don't have enough flagships to sell even in China. It's been mostly about survival for them when it comes to the smartphone business for the last few years with all the restrictions

I NEVER said that Xiaomi is NOT 3 place or so. I said people spend less on Xiaomi phones compared to others. I'm just relying on my memory, but I remembered seeing 170$ for oppo, 190$ Vivo and about 300$ (or 350, not sure, and last data for them was for 2021 if I'm not mistaken) for Huawei. Xiaomi is selling more budget phones, that's for sure, but from perspective of a merchant, what apple is doing is brilliant, what Samsung is doing is better than others, while Huawei, where they only sell good in china, they have done the best anyone could imagine.
