Tbh it'll hurts the sales of lowest variant of MBA btw ($999) a bit, which is shown to people who search for "cheapest Apple laptop".
Instead, they will just buy the 64GB iPad Air + Smart Keyboard Folio, which costs >$200 cheaper ($778).
Even if you upgrade your storage to 256GB, or upgrade your Keyboard to Magic Keyboard, it's still cheaper than the base MBA.
An iPad with MacOS capability would be an insta buy for me. But considering it's Apple, the chance to happen are extremely small...

When I buy a software product say an app, I want to be able to use the product on all ecosystems as if they work the same way on all other platforms paying only once. If I can't move to another brand for the same service because I would have to pay again for the exact same thing, that's gatekeeping.

Pls, 30 Apr 2024Pls do something with nintendo too, eu.Sadly, in this case Nintendo has pretty everything legally covered, the only thing that could be considered as a grey area is ... alternative OS?

Pls, 30 Apr 2024Pls do something with nintendo too, eu.LoL they won't do anything because it won't get them billions like it does milking apple. The fact that they want apple to comply with EU guidelines in EU countries but then slap them with a fine on their GLOBAL revenue if they don't comply speaks volumes about the EU greed and hypocrisy.

Ohhhh Apple is now feeling big mad!! :D

But TBH this correction was a long time coming. Microsoft was taken to court by the USA systems and thrown the book at for far tamer forced-bundling of the Internet explorer back in the olden days. And lookie now, US just meekly bends over for their favorite firstborn trillion dollar megacorp in the year of our lord Timotius Appelous (2024).
It's kinda disgusting how Apple has been allowed to run amok with their "walled garden" BS for so long with no repercussions. So bring in the long awaited pendulum swing baby!

*raises a toast to the EU chads*

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2024Shame on the EU commission. Unreasonable. This money doesn&... moreYeah, Apple can move out anytime. It won't do it, though, because it hungers for money.

The fact that all Silicon iPads don't even run native macOS pretty much says it all. If Microsoft can put real desktop OS on Surface Pro, including the Windows on ARM 5G version, there should be no problem for Apple to do the same with Silicon iPads. It's not like it'll hurt the MacBook sales as Silicon iPads are still crazy expensive in the first place.

You can miss me with all the "ecosystem" nonsense. That only favours brand loyalism even more. It's the reason why we see people saying that headphone jack and microSD card slot on smartphones are "outdated" and "irrelevant", which they never are and never will be.

EU keeps getting more and more hits. They need to go for the KO 💪

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2024Shame on the EU commission. Unreasonable. This money doesn&... moreWithout colonies, EU is dwindling economically. They have to get free money somehow. Fining a non-EU company on money they make outside the EU makes total sense.

this is exactly what must be done like years ago !
not just apple (though they are the biggest evil) but for every other company.

on a side note, i am happy because apple is inferior and people need a way one of it and this eu law gives a lifeline to them.

Good approach instead of letting apple use the "if you dont like you get out" tactics, apple should get out not the general masses !

The only thing that stops Apple from doing as well as they could are these laws and lawsuits.

PFFFFHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Apple are just getting hands left and right and they are making a big fuss and getting extra mad. Their ecosystem is crumbling. Add to the fact that some of their products are either not doing well nor they are cancelled before the light of day. Apple is not having a good 2024 so far.

Good! Let’s keep that train going and hopefully Tim will actually learn by paying those fines out of Apple’s pocket.

Hopefully with third-party apps on iPadOS then iPads will ACTUALLY live up to being "laptop replacements" like Apple claims they are. It's seriously cool that they have M-series chips now but being limited to solely App Store apps kills any serious use for a full-on desktop chip. All that power is wasted when you essentially can only use it to play Angry Birds and Cut the Rope which could both run on phones from over 10 years ago.
