It is okay to make refinements to the main Xperia phone every year. But where's the halo device? Where's the innovation? We would expect Sony of all companies to do something new and jaw dropping. But all we get is boring repeats every year.

It's indeed true that the snapdragon 8 gen 3 has a built in clock that cuts it's performance by 75% if it notices it hasn't had an android version update in a year. Additionally, a small paint gun built into the camera module fires onto the sensor. And finally, the sim card tray is ejected at random intervals after that point. All of this is because, as we know, without the latest version of android phones are about as useful as a car with one wheel.

Why the heck i would want to get a product that have no security what so ever ? If they can't have their advertising safe and it leaks then why would i think their security in phone would be good and there won't be leaks ?

The last update damage screens, years before they damage batteries and there was more, more and more. 99,9% security break needs users to download software and give permission. Usually this software is inside the Google shop..

not a deal breaker for me...
but, tbh, 2 years major update is a downside...
i just wanted them to extend security patches...
and maybe feature drops courtesy of google...
my 1 ii was able to "adapt" quick share, and google apps can still be updated to latest versions (along with other apps)...
but since it was already out of security patches, only google play system updates, i have to demote it as a back-up phone... and eventually buy 1 v (skipping 1iii and 1iv)...
...
sadly, sony is going away to things i love especially for a work phone - that 21:9 cropped 4k display...
i am usually invalidated about wanting such high resolution on a mobile, but having the first one, z5 premium where i scrutinize digital posters, i cannot help it but to use it on mobile, aside from working on a 4k monitor (which i use farther away than i do with a phone)

I hope I didn't sound offensive, that was not my intention. The problem is that most comments are filled with unjustified, emotional outbreaks and when you say something justified which is based on truth, people think you are just another troll talking bullshit.
I also like Sony's simple design language.
I also want to buy one, but I want to wait some years since Sony has been sticking to old camera hardware for too long and just started showing that it can do better.

Same will gioes for a 7 years old samsung phones which will be still supported.
Since no company gives more than 2 years of warranty having more than a 2 years of updates makes zero sense.
Old phone is costly to repair and rather will buy a new phone than fix the old one with ild hardware even if still supported.
2-3 years are more than enough.
5-7 or 10 years old phones with 5-7 or 10 years old hardware will be good only as a feature phone at that time from now.
As you cant teach old dog new tricks you cant teach your phone to get faster and better after 10 OS updates for OS and millions of other updates for apps you use.

Life is simple. Let said there are 2 different phones with similar price, first phone come with 7 OS upgrades, the other one come with 2 OS upgrades, and from this simple choices you can see which one sells more, which one only sell for minuscule number of units.
Also, please dont surpise of Sony stops making phone in 2 years, because of poor sales.
